Will the upgrade from the Westone UM1 to the Westone UM3X RC or Westone 4R be dramatic?

Well, the upgrade is massive I got to agree, if the UM1 don't sound flat or boring to you, the W4 probably won't.

Uhh... No, it doesn't.  Until you hear a triple driver you won't understand.

My first hi-end IEM  (10 years ago) was the heralded (single driver) Shure E4 and it seemed to cover the whole spectrum pretty well.  After SE530 came out it clearly put that argument to rest.  Like night and day.  Like thinking your Honda Accord V6 is fast then racing it against a Shelby GT or ZR1 Vette.

Yeah, but the SE530 didn't put the ER-4 to shame at all, in fact I preferred the ER-4 to the SE530, W3 and UM3x.

Extremely!  With UM1 you basically only getting the midrange frequency.  With the other two you will also get bass and treble.

UM1 definitely do have bass and treble, but only in comparison with higher end IEM you can understand how poorly they really perform :)
Both UM3x and W4 will be a huge upgrade, i prefer the latter, but  UM3X is a safer, more universal choice
