Why is "nobody" recommending open Audio Technica's?

Hi all,
I am looking for a new set of open cans and went through quite a few threads and even if I am not a big fan of Audio Technica's (owned the ATH-A900LTD and ES9W or something) did I start to wonder why close to nobody recommends their open phones? Why is that?

um. who do you mean nobody? I see quite a bit of recommendations from many members for AD2000, AD900, AD700.

then again, not too many owners own AD2000, and people often recommend something other like HD650 instead.

I recommend AD2000 every chance I get

Maybe because people are usually looking for a lower/medium priced can and to my knowledge the AT's really shine at AD2000 & beyond which is above the majority's price range. That's what i'd put my money on.

AD700 and 900's get recommended all the time, don't know why you say this. :\

Maybe I was under the wrong impression and always missing the D in the product name when somebody was recommending...

I've sold HD595s, DT-880s and Grado SR-80s so far because my AD700 was better in every facet of listening IMO. Now I have Cardas recabled AD2000 coming, and I will probably end up looking for a L3000.

damn, I should have stayed away from this forum...

sorry about your wallet? Since I am posting here I don't even _have_ a wallet anymore!

But I need to stay away from the AD2000, too costy... and they are low impedance, meaning mid-fi at best

But back to the topic, with a high-end phone like the AD2000 I would prefer buying from a local dealer and that makes them even more expensive, too expensive for my taste. Instead I could get myself a set of AKG K702 or the HD650 AND AKG K701 and still same a few ****s. But before I say that I should go and start reading some reviews about the AD2000.

Thanks all for washing my brain

say bye-bye to your money in the wallet - you won't see them anytime soon

they weren't always that expensive. When I bought my first pair of AD2K, I got them 320$ used. They just skyrocketed.

Thanks for the links!

And about my wallet... since I am posting here I got rid of my wallet, why keep a wallet that is always empty

320$ is a bargain and I would pull the trigger if I would see them around that price sometime next month (yea, I really try to wait this time, already spend 700 USD on audio equipment this month).

For the price of $100, there really aren't enough good things that can be said about the AD700s.

Btw. how do they sound compared to the ATH-A900? I was using them with an Aria and was not really happy with that setup.
