A few things differentiate them from the HP-2, IMO. Note that I don't play much rock......I'm more jazz and classical oriented. To me the HP-2 are much better in handling orchestras and moderate to larger venues and are less bright than the Alessandro's. You do not want a bright sounding amp with these - they are on the edge to too bright for me (of my amps they clearly sound the best and fuller, rounder with Xin Reference). The Alessandro's excel with small acoustic groups and/or such as string quartets......in playing with earpads - both come off best as they are/were shipped (bowls with MS Pro's, and flats for HP1000). Perhaps the reason for low MS Pro sales is like many Grado's - they tend to be finicky re the amps with which they're paired (and price-level resistance). My experience with them re the Reference is something of an anomoly..........except for that one amp, my choice is tubes for them.
