Why do so few own the Alessandro MS Pro?

I've been doing some digging recently and found a disturbing lack of information on these headphones. There are maybe less than 20 current owners of these headphones on Head-Fi (may be inaccurate since I didn't really count) and only a handful of pages of FS ads for them. What's with the lack of interest? I'm not sure I understand this one.

Probably because there is to many intermediate steps from the beginning of the grado/alessadandro line by the time a person recognises they like the sound signature they go for the top and skip a lot in the middle...

just a thought hehehe

The Grado owners often bad-mouth the Alessandros. It's a big investment and the Grado RS-1 has a heck of a lot more reviews and street cred, at this point.

First, not everyone knows about the Alessandro. The Pro rarely comes up for sale. When they do come up for sale, they hold their value so well .... you may as well buy a new pair. I have never got around to buying a pair since the MS2 is so satisfying to me and less than half the price. I definitely want a pair.

I much prefer the MS2 to the Grado 325 so I dont know why the Pro wouldnt be the equal of the RS-1. I suspect I will prefer the Pro that is why I am waiting for a Pro instead of jumping on a used RS-1.

Actually, some years ago I owned the RS-1 and RS2. I like the Alessandro MS2 better than either.

There is another way around. Some people really prefer Grado. I owned the MS2i's for several days, compared them to the SR325i's thoroughly and they are completely not my cup of tea, so suspecting it's the same MS Pro vs. RS1's, I stay away from the Alessandro's. The sound was neutral indeed, but in the highs it was cold, lifeless, unresolving, bass was fuller than the SR325i's but out of rhythm, uncontrolled. The overall impression was they were bland and boring compared to the Grado's. I know the RS2's, they are a tad better than the SR325i's but not better enough to get them for almost twice the price, I'd rather hit the GS1000 floor or maybe RS1's but they're told to be similar to the SR225's which is no good news to me, so... GS1000 or HP2 if I win in a lottery.

“Why do so few own the Alessandro MS Pro?”

Limited distribution and no discount so few are available to try at meets.

I’ve heard them described as a poor mans HP2 being more refined than the RS-1.

"I owned the MS2i's for several days, "

Did you let them burn in? My RS-1's needed about 200 hours to get going.

Did you try them with something other than the stock bowl pads? I cant stand any of the Grado products with the Bowl pads .... I use flats or modded senn 19545 pads. The MS2's do sound boring and sterile with bowl pads.

No, I didn't. Actually, I have never tried the flat pads and regarding the bowls - I prefer them even on the SR60's. They're not quite comfy but they fit my needs sonically. That said, the MS2i's were OK regarding the frequency balance but their chracter is not for me. When the SR325i's with the bowls work for me why should I blame the pads? Even if you are right, I wouldn't keep both the MS2i's and the SR325i's so I solved my problem quickly.

The MS-Pro is on the want list, but it is 4-5 purchases off. There is very little information about them and I've been curious. Another consideration is if they go out of production - getting a pair will be nearly impossible. I might have to move them up on the list, considering.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Most people outside of the US get Alessandro though, because Grado prices are a LOT higher out there. Kind of interested in the MS-Pro myself, after liking the MS-2 but wanting a little more something. And no, flats did not deliver it. I much prefer the bowls.

Hm...but then the suggestion that they sound much like HP1000 is very tempting, and HP1000 market is very hot. What is exactly difficult about getting these for someone in USA?
