I was looking at these two different set of cans today:

DT 770 Pro 80 ohm

DT 990 Pro 250 ohm

and I noticed a rather large discrepancy in price. I thought that since the 990s were the bigger number (more recent model I would assume?) that they would be more expensive, but this does not seem to be the case.

Is it because of the 80 ohm specification that the price is higher for the DT 770s? I did notice that the DT 770 250 ohm are $175... What's the deal here?

If anything, I would think that the newer model and/or the higher impedance model would be more expensive..

Probably supply and demand. I believe the lower impedance versions appeal to more people because they are easier to drive so there is more demand for them. The 770 is closed, 880 is semi open, and 990 is open so with Beyers the number indicate different types rather than better vs worse among the three. Although some level of openness (less air flow restriction) contributes to more realistic sound, some people desire or require the isolation.

I think it's simply the randomness of sales; same msrp but 41 vs 47% off:

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, 250 ohms
List Price: $299.00
Price: $175.00 & FREE Shipping. Details
You Save: $124.00 (41%)

Beyerdynamic AMS-DT-990-Pro-250 Professional Acoustically Open Headphones for Monitoring and Studio Applications
List Price: $299.00
Price: $159.00 & FREE Shipping. Details
You Save: $140.00 (47%)

It could also have to do with current inventory, maybe they ordered many more 990s than 770s, maybe they want to get rid of current inventory to order a new batch, anyhow, another question would be, why are the 880 so much more expensive than both... Or, why does the Premium 990 costs more than the 880 Premium and the 880 PRO cost so much more than the 990 PRO... Even MSRP of 300 vs 380.

Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Headphones (250 Ohm)
List Price: $379.00
Price: $227.99
You Save: $151.01 (40%)

Nah the 990s have always been one of the cheapest cans, why I don't know but they are some of the best to own/ The Pro 250's are also cheaper because they are ugly "apprently" I guess people like the look of the Preuim version of the Pro. Which I personally don't feel that ANY Preuim Beyer is worth owning, unless your going to recable and fully balance it, In which case you'd want the 600 ohm than

Still the Dt 990 Pro 250s are just epic [and cheap] :D deal wid IT
