Just wondering because I hardly see any people doing that over here. Only see the ibuds or that kinda...stuff. Perhaps I live in the wrong city...?
I do it to shut me of from my enviroment and can totally focus on the things I see around me and enjoy them without being disturbed.
Also to keep the people from interacting with me. They most of the time have no interesting things to say besides the typical "I am a boy and you are a girl ennoying" stuff.
So what's your motivation??

[size=x-small]I don’t wear them myself, because I never wear headphones on the street.
I mostly drive my car, or a car anyway…
I see more and more people wearing larger headphones than I used to see.
Not the big Proline 750 though, but I guess that’s more of an insiders can anyway.
Most people will buy at a “Mediamarkt” or some sort of mega store, and are not wiling to pay for quality, and are not coming in contact with what’s available to them through more specialised stores.
I do see more and more people wearing medium large headphones though.
I also see and hear more and more young people listening to an mp3 player through the build in speakers…
That sounds so awful!
Please keep wearing your 750’s!
Anyway, a pretty girl like you can get away with wearing a big blue headphone on the street, where a big bald guy like me just looks a bit stranger than I already used to…

I would certainly give you the "Oh my god, that looks GOOD" look!!

But you are right, most people don't give a damn about how it sounds, just that it sounds. When I sell an iPod there has never been anyone using it with an actual can, just the buds or so hrrrrr...! Sometimes the senns px-serie and that is better indeed!

I used to wear my Ultrasone HFI-650 out and about, but I've recently upgraded to the PROline 650 for their deeper bass extension and larger soundstage.

I do prefer the looks of the HFI-650 for being out in public; their color scheme and smaller oval, rounded-back ear-cups are a little more discreet than the PROlines rich blue color and larger, somewhat more severe flat-backs.

I still break out the HFI-650s on occasion for use on rainy days.

Either way, I do get plenty of looks and double-takes from folks, but I just stare right back at 'em!

i see some people around town

usually uni students, saw one girl wearing a pair of Sennheiser HD-497s once, a few bose triports and one of my friends who deliberately wears his Sennheiser HD-212 without the cable and rocks out like a madman randomly or to ignore conversation/sleep in classes

Try the hipster neighborhoods of Berlin. I see people wearing full-size headphones around every day. Typically they fall into three categories:

A. Junk (60 percent). Mostly sony of course. A few flea market vintage ones, mostly on girls for some reason.

B. Passable. (35 percent) Nearly always HP460, K26p, PX100/200, or PortaPro.

c. Wow. (5 percent) Occasionally I see real audiophiles around. Old series DT770, HD25-1, Jecklin Floats. Okay, I made up that last one. Personally, I've strolled with Grados, Yamaha and East German orthodynamics, and even an old DT990 once. Generally I use my vibes or KSC-75, though.

Doesn't to me. I wear my HD280s all over. Whether it's SF Downtown, College Campus, anywhere! I like it since it isolates noise and I get the sound of headphones. Also, it doubles as an earmuff, great for cold outtings.

I had a pair of SR60s, which I loved. I wore them everywhere...on the street, at work, etc. They were trashed within a year. The caps that keep the earcups attached to the headband went first. Then the pads tore. Then the cable developed shorts in two places.

Point is, while I don't care about stares, I do care about constantly having to replace equipment. The Grados didn't (and shouldn't be expected to) survive the ravages of cable snags and the indignity of getting stuffed into my bag and pulled out again five times a day.

I really prefer regular cans to IEMs, on the basis both of sound and of comfort. So the ever-popular Koss Portapros are my compromise. They are rugged enough to absorb an amazing amount of abuse, and their simple construction allows for easy repairs with tape, glue or a soldering iron.

I've lost track of how many times I've recabled the PortaPros I've owned over the years (with cables scavenged from the cheap phones that come with portable players.) And when they are finally trashed beyond repair, $40 gets me back to square one.

Simple fact is, all of my portable equipment ends up broken before too long, and so I have to limit the $$ damage by sticking with low-cost phones. And the PortaPros fit that bill while supplying excellent sound, even if the SR60s kick their butt. A compromise I can live with.

Still, I passed a kid on the subway platform the other day, and he was bopping along, happily sporting his SR60s. I felt **so** inadequate.
