Well, I just went through and made a sort of summary. It's not right on, but pretty close. Here's how it's going so far (for the more popular setups):

SR60 (20)
HD580 (13)
SR80 (13)
HD600 (13)
MS-1 (8)
HD555 (7)
HD595 (7)
DT880 (6)
HD650 (5)
AKG 240 (4)
DT770-80 (3)
RS-1 (3)
MS-2 (3)

Not that this really means anything, but it's interesting.

Believe it or not, my first headphone WOW moment was with the Senn PC150 headset. I know now that they really are not very good. But compared to anything else I had heard to that point they were spectacular.

My next WOW was the SR80's w/ modded 414 pads. When I first got them all I had was the bowl pads and i hated them. But I decided to give the Senn pads a try and, well, WOW...what a difference. It was then that I realized how bad the PC150's sounded.

Next was the KSC75. I had read alot about the KSC35's and wanted to try them but hadn't taken the plunge. When the 75's came out and I heard they had them at Meijer's for $14 I stopped and got a pair on my way to a LAN party. During a break I broke them out to give them a listen and I get this big, cheesy grin on my face. I couldn't believe I was hearing that sound out of a $14 pair of phones. I tried to share the experience with others at the LAN party but no one cared. Very frustrating.

Next was my HD590's w/ the Equinox cable. Definitely the best sounding cans I had ever heard. Plus, they were so comfy I told my Grados that they should be ashamed of themselves.

Currently, I am having a WOW moment with my new CX300's. They get better with every passing minute. I am listening to the "Sleepy Hollow" soundtrack and it sounds absolutely incredible.

I remember liking some headphone back in the 70’s, but the first WOW! Was definitely the Stax Lambda Pro headphones in about 1988.

To meet the WOW! standard a new headphone experience has to be MUCH better than the previous best. This make it ever more difficult to achieve the WOW! The Stax set up was very good, my only other WOW! was the HE90 driven by the KGSS. I’ve had many wow experiences, and some Wow experiences, but only a couple of WOW! experiences.

I'm a bit of a n00b but the HD-25sp's!!(I got them today!) I love my er6i's(er6i's FTW!!!) but the HD25sp's are so agressive and go great with my music. At first they sounded so bass heavy and it drowned out the mids and highs, but after like 1/2 hour burn in(with EQ because I was getting a headache from the bass) they sound amazing(with the EQ off now

OMG they're so much better than my ety's. And obviously an infinite improvement from my Sony MDR-V150's that I listened to before I found Head-fi.

had a little one with sr-60s a few years back, then when I heard the HD600s a few months ago, I think I made a baby...

I guess I'm the first one to have a first with the Omega II's aka O(rgasm)2. It was my first encounter with hi-fi headphones and since then...almost nothing has been nearly as satisfying. Almost? Yes, AKG K1000's blew me away, I had to sit down for several minutes afterwards and cool down. Still waiting for a third...K340...could it be?

When I bought a pair of Sennheiser PX200s, one of the sealed portables, that was when I realised there's an entire world of sound beyond the realm of stock headphones.
When I bought my HD595s ... that was when I got my first really great sound.

AKG K271S

Finally burned in now (have owned it since September '05). Man that took a long time to burn in (even with some unattended burn-in the first few months), it probably took like 500 hours! I could instantly tell when it was fully burned in, I put on Flunk's "Morning Star" CD one day a couple weeks ago and suddenly heard only what the K271S can do - the frailty in the female singer's voice, the wash of guitars, the dense layers on each song. It just became pure, sweet music that sounded REAL.

Add another MS-1 to the list!!

I am hooked. When the Beatles asked me to sit in with them while they were recording, I was captured. These cans aren't called the "Gateway Drug" for no reason!!
