Hi I am not familiar with that headphone, so I can't say for certain how the two compare in terms of durability.
having owned a K240s for 3-4 years, I wouldn't want to stuff it into a backpack regularly. Its just too big for that kind of thing. but I'm careful with my stuff too.
Are there any other headphones within this price range that dont reqire an amplifier ? what about Bose AE2 & OE2 ? I know they are not for mixing & mastering but they color the sound in a nice way. Does OE2 have more bass then AE2 ? Also I can't seem to find their specs.
I also own a bose AE2. Its trendy to bose-bash here on HF, although not nearly as much as 6-7 years ago. They do have some strengths going for them... most notably comfort, durability, and a fairly balanced sound across the spectrum. Others will disagree depending on their frame of reference, but I find them to be a little heavy on the bass, with some gently/nicely boosted treble. they are my most durable headphone. I have slept ON THEM, repeatedly and they survive fine. I'm 6 feet 200 pounds FWIW. and they do offer some passive noise isolation. i like the AE2 for watching sports and TV... when I dont care for every last sonic detail.
As far as image, accuracy, soundstage and overall sonic enjoyment go though, the K240s blows them away, IMHO.
Thats a near-perfect setup for the K240s, straight out of a mid-fi receiver headphone jack.
EDIT... check that... its a PERFECT setup for this headphone. Sufficient amplification/source without going needlessly $$$ overboard.
The cheapest case I found for these headphones is this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-hard-case-box-bag-Storage-for-AKG-K24-K240S-K240MK2-K-240-MK2-24-Headphones-/181117019849?pt=US_Rack_Cases_Hard_Cases_Bags&hash=item2a2b6a66c9
