Hi I need some serious advise here I have been using just an Aiaiai TMA-1 for 6 to 7 months, so is an AKG k240 Studio, Grado sr80i or Aiaiai TMA-1 still the better ?

You could also get the K272HD from this guy here. He says they are lightly used and at 80 dollars it's a pretty good deal and they are much better than the 240s.

I'm pretty sure you can switch the pads from other K2xx series if you want closed...

Yesterday I was listening to my AKG K242HD out of the Matrix M-Stage and they really are better than I remembered. They do nothing extraordinary but they have a better bass impact than the AD900. They are a bit too more on the treble side and get fatiguing a bit quickly for me, but they sound quite allright. I'm pretty sure you can get a lot worse for the money. If you can get a 240s or alike (K2XX series) for 80 dollars it's quite a safe bet, you will definately need a little amp with these though, or you will be dissapointed.

Are there any other headphones within this price range that dont reqire an amplifier ? what about Bose AE2 & OE2 ? I know they are not for mixing & mastering but they color the sound in a nice way. Does OE2 have more bass then AE2 ? Also I can't seem to find their specs.

I have never tried those headphones. Bose isnt very popular on this forum so you might have a hard time finding people who have them...

Mmmmh well. Beats and Bose both have very bad reputation. I probably would have to try them before spending any money on one of these.

Got the K550, they are pretty good. The only con I have is the low quality pads. They look and feel like those you find on 10 dollar headphones. Not good. They don't require an amp and sound good, but they are closed...

10dollar headfone....nah.... its a soft pleather.. v comfy.

It IS comfy indeed, my most comfortable headphone with the Momentums, but the surface is very weak and I haven't put 10 hours on them and they already show they are not gonna last long... After 50 hours they will need to be replaced. NOT NORMAL.

My $65 K240s suggestion above was made based on pricing in the $80 (US) range, and its in the same price bracket as the OPs considerations in post 1.
 
But most definitely there are better options at higher price ranges.
