Was just wondering if only some IEMS/Headphones need amps, or will all earphones benefit greatly from one? Recently purchased an Aurisonic ASG 1 (rev 1.2) and waiting for it to be delivered; what amp would be suitable?

What source(s) are you going to be plugging the ASG's into?

My ASG is going to use a Sony NWZ-Z1050 (walkman)  as its source.

You might try a Fiio E6.

i have a fiio e17 and its good, i feel comfortable recommending it. i dont know about other fiio amps though because i dont own any of them. but if he doesnt want to pay for the e17, shouldnt he look at e7 or e11, something like that? i heard the e6 was more of volume booster?

How much "benefit" there is depends on the headphone or earphone or IEM and also on the user him/herself.  One's that "don't care" as much won't think it's worth it while others will spend thousands for that perfected sound.

The E17 is tiny. It is small than a iPod Touch length and width wise but the height(depth) it is a bit chunky. About or less than an inch or so in depth.

If you are interested in the E17 then I recommend reading the reviews and then this thread.

Which is more or less a thread full of EVERYTHING on it. Read Clieos's excellent(I think it's the best out there) review on it and then pages 50-80 and then 110-130 for the depth of what the device is like or does IF YOU WANT..

I'm just not sure any headphone amplifier will make that big a difference with IEMs.
If the guy wants to spend $65 for the Fiio E11, he should go for it.

As I'm sure you can't hook up an external DAC to the Sony, no need to get the Fiio E17.

the DAC for e17 is only available via USB mode. it doesnt work with my ipod, for my ipod, its a pure amp.
