I own a Alessandro MS-1i (new version) bought directly from Alessandro. However, after owning it for around 1 year I’m looking for an upgrade.

As many have mentioned on Head-Fi Alessandro sort of lack the prominence in low sound spectrum and lack soundstage. I have my own short reviews about MS-1i put on Head-Fi. However, give the price tag this is a great headphone in its class...

I live in Australia and sadly there is limited choice on the market, specially online purchases compared to US and perhaps Europe. After some reach on the web I found a local web store that has a decent collection of major headphones. Now, I’m not going to mention the website here but here are some of the headphones I picked from the web store that I think are interesting and their prices.

Now these are all open design...

So what is you pick?

Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - A$199.00
Beyerdynamic DTX700 - A$135.00
Beyerdynamic DTX900 - A$195.00
Sennheiser HD515 - A$169.00
AKG K530 - $219.00
Beyerdynamic DT440 - A$289.00
Sennheiser HD555 - A$212.00
Sennheiser HD595 - A$289.00

Hold out for one of the better Beyers used.

I think there was an Australian on the board selling a DT250/250 lately...

Be very careful when taking advice. Speakers are so damn subjective. You really need to read this forum and connect with someone that feels the same way on a lot of the same cans or music. I did a demo of the Sennheiser 800 and preferred the 650. Call me crazy.

Is there a reason you haven't listed the AKG 701/702?

They are over my budget... all cans listed here are less than A$300

Everytime someone mentions the need for low end the Audio Technica M50's come up. I haven't heard them myself but it would definitely be one for you to consider... plus they come in under your budget!

Oh and btw the k701/2 have less kick than the ms-1i's I was using.
