What's your best experience for an amp for AKG K 701s?

At this point in headphone amp history there's a good number of choices especially in the high end department. Throw in a good thousand dollars or two and you'll have some nice results baby.

I've heard the Matrix, Little Dot Mark II, Headroom Micro Amp, Millet SSHT and my Gilmore Lite+DPS along with various portable amps and I have to say the GLite still reigns supreme to me. I'm sure the B22 and the GS-1 are better. But for the price, it's hard to argue against the GLite.

I set my K701 free, recabled with Vortex copper cable and Bocchino xlr's then mated with the Phoenix.
Just in another league , wish you were here.

i once owned the K701 and now have the K702.  for me, the source counts.  with the y2 DAC, the B22/M3/Bijou all sound fantastic.  i have a hard time liking the AKGs with my BM DAC1, no matter what the amp is.  01010 are not all "created" equally

Tried the K701's with the Little Dot MKVII+ (balanced) and the X-CAN V8P (single-ended) and I prefer the V8P slightly. The slight warm V8P gives the sound more body than the Little Dot.

For me they do pretty well with inexpensive high-gain hybrids. I thought my K701s had particularly good synergy with the Maverick D1; I had the second version that had the rollable op-amps and the factory-upgraded NOS tube. I almost wish I had kept the D1 just for the 701s, as they don't seem to sound quite as good with my current, more expensive setups IMHO. My 701s have the Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable upgrade.

I'm still of part of the K701 + Canamp troupe. They really did sound fantastic together.
