are they available internationally?

Not quite yet.

Some Corrections:

First, I didn't even realize I kept putting the 's' in Xcape
tongue.gif
, lol.

Second, the earlier price stated as the domestic price was too good to be true(darn). The domestic prices, changed in the OP, are $60 Crius and $75 Ares domestic(current factory prices that I was told today). Makes more sense. The ones I have are not the original planned version(budget phone) but I gave the price plan for that one. My bad as I should have double checked it with Vivian, thinking back on it, since the quality level and budget price really didn't match up. Again, that was domestic price. Outside prices not yet known.

So I got both the Ares and Crius in the mail today from jant71. First impressions are good so far. I've put maybe 10-15 minutes on the Crius so far and I like what I hear.

As this is a dynamic I have yet to test it outside so far but there is no driver flex on either which is a good sign as I really do not like driver flex. The fit is simple and should not be a problem for most people. The sound is pretty balanced with a bit of warmth and a good punch to it. It's not as bass monster but not bass light either. There may be a slight mid bass emphasis by a couple of dB but nothing like the Eterna or the IE8 in that area.

What I'd like to know is when they will be available, price and where I can get them. This would make such a great backup and better than the Brainwavz M2 for my uses.

I've had both the Ares and Crius on hand for around two weeks or so I would guess and I like both of them. Neither will challenge my W4 but that is not the purpose and they both are much much cheaper.

First off is the Ares. In a nutshell the Ares is fairly balanced with a bit of warmth, good clarity and decent extension. It has a very slight emphasis in the mid bass but nowhere near a bass cannon. I don't hear anything at the extremes so extension is not the greatest but still respectable.

The bass gives a nice punch when a song calls for it. As mentioned earlier it's not a bass cannon but should be adequate for most. Decay is a bit slower than most BA earphones I've heard so it's right in line as one would expect from a dynamic. Detail and texture is not bad at this price range. I can't hear anything at the lowest of lows.
The midrange is a tiny bit forward but not too forward. There's a bit of warmth from the bass and this definitely is a good thing. Midrange clarity is fairly good although even though there is some warmth here. Detail is also good.

The upper midrange and treble continues to have good clarity. It doesn't have any noticeable peaks to my ears. The treble similar to the bass seems to disappear once you reach a certain point but it's at the highest of highs. It does not fade softly until it disappears but rather it's there and then once you go up a bit more it's gone. There is a decent amount of sparkle which most should be able to enjoy here without it being too much.

The Crius is very similar in sound. Basically the difference between the Ares is that the Crius has a bit less bass and warmth. I didn't want to repeat myself with the Crius so just mentioned the difference.

Overall both are pleasing and not bad values at the price I believe they are (roughly $40 or so?) with slightly different signatures but more similar than they are different.

More DUNU in the house...

DN-16(Hephaes). Confirmation anyone on the driver type? :) English is now on the packaging and we have "Multi-layer membrane design" so I'm thinking dynamic on the Hephaes.

We have a slightly different cable material. More supple than the Crius/Area cable. We have a titanium housing with mirror finish. We also have ear guides, 10 pairs of various tips, and the two cases(main zipper case and drawstring types). An English manual(earhook instructions)/warranty card(1 year worldwide warranty).

Probably a separate review to follow in another week. Out of the box, they are no doubt higher on the DUNU food chain! The flames look good! I'll need to take pictures in better light.

So fast. They just released it last week in Beijing.

DN-16 will probably be their flagship till they can finish the R&D on DN-20.

Guess it is UPS weaving their magic
wink_face.gif
and bringing me exotic things from far away lands!

Let us not forget the Trident...

Maybe you can see the vent hole in the center. A little driver flex in my right ear says dynamic driver. Again the box says multi-layer membrane.

Different straight plug and y-cord with slider. I like it.

Didn't open these till today mostly due to Memorial day weekend stuff but I probably should have opened them with the DN-16. All I can say is WOW! Another winner and I haven't heard a phone this fun and enjoyable in a while. Only tried it with the Sony S639 so far but sweet mids, addictive guitars, tight punchy but slightly warm bass that is quick and just the right amount of sparkly treble. Fun, Fun, Fun!!

No idea on the driver but based on Erji.net, it seems that the sound is modelled pretty closely to IE7.
