What would you choose v1.0: HD650 vs K701 vs DT880

Having heard all three, I would rank them as follows (remember, this is only MY rankings)

1) K701
2) DT880
3) HD650

I think the K701 and the DT880 are pretty similar, but ultimately the K701 edges out the DT880 by a slim margin. As for the HD650s, well, I'm just not a Sennheiser type of person I guess.

I can't say anything about the 880.

The whole point is to get the best reproduction in sound, however, ones definition of "best" varies from anothers.

If you could only pick one though, which of the two?

i don't have much experience with DT880. Between K701 and HD650, I prefer HD650 by quite a margin.

The "full" on the HD650 can be a blessing and a curse. I liked it, but found that it really pushed its signature on music that didn't require it a lot. It's very slow sounding. Very musical though.

Doesn't this comparison have to be made between the "de-veiled" HD650's with the upgraded cable (e.g. Cardas, HP Senn v2, Zu, or Silver Dragon), and not just a comparison with the stock HD650's? And... made with a good amp?

I wouldn't think the stock HD650's, without a good amp... with their muffled sound (i.e. veil), would even come close (i.e oh no... Art would be right once again).

Out of just those three

1) akg k701
2) dt880
3) hd650

I simply prefer akg's signature. 650 and 880 are still great headphones, they just arent my taste.

Well, the stock HD650 is in the same pricerange as the K701 and DT880, and those sound better with new cables too... so... I'm not sure your point, exactly.

Without having heard the K701, I'd go for the DT-880 which I have fell in love with

Can anyone say, "been there, done that".

Having not heard the AKG yet...

On my previous modest rig, Beyer 880.

On my current rig, Senn 650.

Each sounds like crap on the other rig

Ie the Meta42 couldn't move the Senn, and the Beyer doesn't scale as well.
