African Head Charge - Off The Beaten Track

Dubby club instrumentals by Adrian Sherwood from the mid-'80s. Finally got a vinyl copy; it's been on the Hit-Parade ever since.

Mulatu Astatke and the Heliocentrics - Inspiration Information

I'm not as crazy about those French Ethiopiques compilations as a lot of my friends are, but this new disc gets Ethiopia's premier jazzy popster up to speed. Some cats associated with DJ Shadow are in the backing band.

Love this, incredibly dense but accessible at the same time and endlessly listenable.

Agreed, particularly the first OST, but they're all great.

I bought around 400 CDs last year, about 2/3 of them used at the thrift store for $1-$3.

I had some great finds that way

Wilco - AM first Wilco album I've owned and I was pleasantly surprised
Drive by Truckers - A Blessing and a Curse
Sixpence Non The Richer - Divine Discontent
Sister Hazel - Fortress
Blues Traveler - Four
Jade Warrior - Waves (LP)
King Sunny Ade - Juju Music
Doves - The Last Broadcast
Marin Marais: Pieces de viole du quatrieme livre, 1717 (Suitte d'un gout etranger)
Maurice Andre - Trumpet and Organ Works
Sun Volt - Okemah and the Melody of Riot
The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld
Supergrass - Road to Rouen
Eliot Fisk - Rocheberg Caprice Variations
Duffy - Rockferry
Si Soy Llanero: Joropo Music from the Orinoco Plains
The Stone Roses

Of the albums I bought either online or at a B&M store

Miles Davis - Aura one of my favorite Miles Davis albums now
Jacques Loussier Plays Bach - The 50th Anniversary Recording
Kaki King - Until We Felt Red

These are just the ones that pleasantly surprised me. I also got a lot of albums, both new and used, that I new when I got them that they were very good.

This CD of baroque lute music performed by Toyohiko Satoh with his daughter Miki is my favorite discovery of the past year. Absolutely a first-rate performance and recording. Especially nice listening with Stax headphones, but it is very good with my Grado SR60's as well.
