That's a pretty personal question. I hardly know you...

instead of using a free equalizer, headfi-ers prefer to change sound by spending thousands of dollars on new equipment!

to evaluate new purchases i use none
for music i use a shallow 'S' shape
for gaming a 'V' shape, 3d sound, bass boost, crystallizer, and whatever i feel like, depending on what headphones/amp i happen to be using can handle

Flat. Though sometimes I add +2 to 55Hz in Foobar equalizer to give bass bit more sense of depth, depending on headphone of course.

Flat. I have three settings I use from time to time, though. One cuts bass and treble, for playing on my Altec Lansing satellites. One slightly boosts bass, for when I'm feeling like a basshead. The final one greatly boosts bass, for when I feel like losing teeth.

I never use it, but I did some settings to get my flat sounding studio M40's to sound somewhat like my A500's and D5000's (which have a pretty similar balance) and here's what it looks like:

Usually I like a little more bass on the k240DF, so bass boost on Winamp more or less. Everything else is prefect. Hardly ever use eq with the others....except bass boost on JBL ear buds with Clip.
