What did I just buy? 6DJ8/6AS7 Headphone amp on ebay...

Forgive my noobishness, but could anybody give an explanation as to why the wood casing is a bad idea? I mean, I know that you don't have a ground plate that way (but I was under the impression that you could just wire the ground), and I know that that build gives me a "ticking time bomb" sick feeling in my stomach, but I'm just curious as to the theory.

If a part should overheat, there is a bigger risk of fire than with a metal cased amplifier. Considering this seller's poor design practices, the risk is pretty high.

Just a heads up-

He's still at it but using a different Seller ID- 2930luo......but it is David Yee and DavidYee Audio

He mostly sells cheap items like labels and lamps- thus the very high positive feedback.

I just got suckered into buying a pair of very undersized output transformers... very deceptive ad which didn't mention dimensions or weight.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/parts/192564-transformer-opinions-needed-size-matters.html

Given his record in dealing with problems, I don't think I'm going to try to get a refund - I can use the transformers in a very low-power amp some day. I'm already getting the emails about not damaging the item ('no cut wire'), so the setup is obvious.

My advice:Stay away from this guy.

wow, I completely forgot about this nightmare..thanks for reminding me! :)

The beauty of being a buyer on ebay paying with paypal today is all you have to do is file a complaint with ebay.  Ebay pretty much is no-questions-asked in favor of the buyer.  They might even give you a paid shipping label so you don't have to do it on your own dime.  It takes a little while, but basically after the tracking shows that it was returned....ebay issues a full refund.  Doesn't really matter what the buyer says as far as "no returns".
Kinda sucks to be a seller on ebay because of this....but for the buyer it sure is nice.

Here's the belly of the beast linked above from his facebook page

I am thankful that I can ask questions and/or express my opinion.  I am also thankful that various respected industry experts, many audiophiles and the average layman can have an amicable conversation.  Many thanks to Jude and the staff for providing this forum.
