Hi, its x-mas soon and my px-100 are five years old and starting malfunction. So I thought maybe I could ask Santa for some new ones. I wanted to replace the cables on my old ones, but I got nowhere with Sennheiser, they said it was less expensive just to buy new ones, and ebay does not seem to have any either.

From what I've read, the follow up on px - 100, the px - 100 2 don't seem to be all that. If thats the case, what alternatives exist to replace my old px-100? Not to expensive, but not some crap either. I used my old px-100 for my computer, mp3 - player, work out, running etc, so something that is as light weight and functional would be nice.

Koss Porta Pro would be a perfect replacement for only $30. That's half the price of the new Sennheiser PX100ii which have mixed reviews.

I much prefer the PortaPros to the PX100s. They have slightly better bass and the highs aren't rolled off (as they are in many of Sennheiser's headphones). I've also found them to be more comfortable (due to the temporal pads) and you won't find a better warranty than what Koss offers (lifetime, no questions asked). And they're only $30 on Amazon right now.

I've also been looking to replace PX100's, and the PX100-II is twice the price! So not an option for me. I am considering PortaPros instead.

On Amazon the PX100-II are selling for $63, the PX100 for $89.

The last time I had looked for the PX100(which in all fairness was a while ago), I didn't see them. When I bought my current set, that is dying, they only cost me $37.99, IIRC.

For a while recently here in UK the Porta Pros and PX100 cost about the same (under £20). I'm guessing the PX100 price was a special clearance price since they'd just been discontinued. PX100s are now getting harder to find and cheapest I see now is £27 from Superfi.
Wondering what bad reviews the PX 100 II has had...

I had koss porta pro before I got the px-100, but they had to much bass for my taste. And I kept getting my hair stuck in it :D If I raise the pricebar to 100-120$, does the picture change dramatically?

PX100 used to be my favorite but now I prefer Portapro's sound. My PX100 had served me well for over 4 years but recently, I discovered that the foam in the grills had disintegrate and need replacement. The reply I got from Senn is that they can't replace that foam part! Only the cushions on the headband and foam pads can be replaced. That is a serious design flaw and I believe the PX100II have foam in the grills too.
