There's nothing new here, just the best of the Fifties and Sixties rock & roll and soul music restated with honest coviction as sung by one of rock's best voices. As a vocalist, Seger recalls Rod Stewart; his raspy voice can both soar and attack. As a composer, he echoes Bruce Springsteen in his painful attempts to memorialize his past.
Throughout, Seger believably details the characters in his songs with compassion and artistic insight.
Seger's Silver Bullet Band and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section share the backup credit and provide support of almost operatic intensity. The arrangements use traditional devices, for example, tempo and volume continually shift to create climax upon climax.
Seger, armed with blue-collar credibility represents Motor City Rock at its best on these heartland classics, plus lesser-known ballards rife with bittersweet nostalgia, which in total is a beautiful thing to experience.
A hometown boy who knows how to rev up on a crowd , he's a voice, as supreme songwriter, you suspect has been listening to your thoughts, here eloquently put to music .
Highly recommended-
