What Are You Listening To Right Now?

The original quake game was great and included the sound track on it if you put the game cd in a regular cd player. Was my first introduction to Trent Reznor. I'll have to see if I still have it somewhere 🤔
Not Quake but I still have the original CD and soundtrack of Unreal....

Unreal was a classic. In all the PC games I've played over the years since 1998 (I'm a PC gamer) it still ranks in my top 5 with it being #1

I agree, playing through Unreal for the first time was one of the best gaming experience I've ever had, even though Half-Life was also up there 👌

Anyway, I'm on a bit of afternoon Rock from the best (IMO) Danish rock bands, D.A.D.

So I went to my local Barnes & Noble to get a copy of Dave Brubeck's Time Out CD, and while there saw a few Diana Krall albums I don't have; but the one that stood out to me was Wildflower (2014) because it has a version of California Dreaming, a song I've always loved. Taking a little time to relax there, I give the album a listen on Spotify. Sold, so now I have this beautiful album. And yes, she does a great job on California Dreaming. Another gem that just sold me on the spot is If I Take You Home Tonight.

Anyway, I just ordered SHM version of Wallflower (The Complete Sessions) from Walmart.

I'd posted earlier I'd listened to and ordered this CD. Well listening to in now (again), and being an SHM Japanese release, the sound quality is wonderful.

Most of the material here is 60's cover songs of rock classics The exception being If I take You Home Tonight written by Paul McCartney for an album, he was doing but the song never made the cut, so he allowed Diana to record it. And well... it's such a beautiful song and it alone is worthy of the price of admission for the album. All the material is done Diana's smooth jazzy stylings, and the musicianship is excellent.

The added material (tracks 13-20) is also worthy getting the "Complete Sessions" edition, especially for the live version (which doesn't sound live) of Wallflower (a country sounding tune) done in an almost acapella / solo piano, also a favorite. Also like her version of Heart of Gold.

Really there isn't anything on this I don't like. And it would also make for a great Sunday afternoon drive.

The remixing tech using AI allowed separation of the voices, guitar and drum
tracks which could then be remastered to the taste of Giles (also Paul and
Ringo). In general, the voices are more separated, and the rhythm guitar is
much more forward as are the drums. I like the sound, but not everyone does.

The 2023 and 2017 remix/remasters ... the projects led by George Martin's
son Giles. Quite fascinating to hear the lads' progression from 1962 to 1967.

I have (still have via Steam), and played (a few times), all the Half-Life games. Classics no doubt :thumbsup:But none make my "all-time" top 5. That's me.

Welcome to head-fi @Oboe - Consistently game and movie "sound tracks" are very high quality recordings which their large budgets affords this often year long work to be done. Good call, "Quake"

Here's a gasser for 2023 from the Japanize Jazz scene greats:
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio’s
A Shade of Blue (very finely recorded with 12 microphones(?) and exquisitely performed - hard to believe the combined age of this trio is 215 years. On the other hand, these guys are so good that perhaps a couple hundred years of combined experience is needed to reach this level. ~

I just listened to this (thanks for the rec). What a great, quality recording. I love it.
