Steven Wilson said that for people who 'get' the Cardiacs, they often become their favorite band. I'm not prepared to argue overmuch with Steven from what I've heard. Yes, I've listened to the first 3 so far, and every song on all 3 of them are great. I've got a feeling that I'll like anything that this lot have put out. Certainly some GG influence, but I could sit and go 'That reminds me of such-and-such' and such all day long with them, but what's great is how they stitch together all these disparate elements, into a strong, coherent whole that doesn't sound like anybody else.

I cannot disagree with anything you said, except I cannot have a single 'favourite band' but more like a zillion ones.

Same about their unique blending of influences: quite a lot other bands have managed to do the same in the prog realm, especially in the avant-prog niche. To name a few; I'll quote Infinien, Henry Cow, Samla Mammas Manna, Emme Phyzema, Ruins, Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere, Upsilon Acrux, Boredoms, Charming Hostess, Juan Martín, Zinkl, Kotebel, Senogul and Brave New World (the German band inspired by the book).

One of my favorite drummers right there ... thanks @Ableza for the idea.

For today - another favorite drummer: Brian Blade.
Herbie Hancock - Directions in Music.png
This song is by John Coltrane ... saxophone solo by Michael Brecker.

Scott Colley - Empire.png
Scott Colley on bass, Bill Frisell on guitar, Brian Blade on drums. Sublime.

Brian Blade - Angular Blues.png
These albums are from 2002, 2010 and 2020. Brian is touring with his trio
which includes Scott Colley this year; they will make a stop in Tel Aviv. My
pal, pro drummer Gony, lives there and he plays Gretsch drums, as does
Brian. So ... Gony offered to loan his drum kit to Brian for the show, and
Brian accepted. Cool, right? I'm sure that Gony is hoping to pick up a few
drumming tricks. HD800 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> :)
