Mark Hollis was a fascinating and brilliant musician, who was motivated by making great music, not money.
He gave very few interviews, but one famous line from 1998 was this: 'Before you play two notes, learn how to play one note, y'know, And that, it's as simple as that really. And don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it'
The album was engineered by Phill Brown.
Phill Brown's brilliant book 'Are we Still Rolling' gives a fascinating insight into the tortuous process of recording Spirit of Eden as well as many other classic albums.
