^ Finally getting that crisp, cool/chilly (even cold, if you count temps in the 40's F as cold) Fall air that makes me want to play the heck out of this album, as it's the one that started it all when I first heard singles from it when it came out in the Fall of '91 during my freshman year of high school. Really cool and interesting how certain music is linked to certain memories and times in your life that you can revisit just by playing it. Listening to the 2011 AF release which has a DR of 16!
And yes, the title track, including the rap part, was considered cool by most of my peers back then (people would even sing the rap section). It was a imitation of the pop-rap that was trendy at the time (even though Rush was obviously just having fun with that whole rap section and even making fun of the pop-rap of the late 80's/early 90's). By '93, however, after the grunge revolution, the rap part of the song was pretty much universally reviled (and most older fans never liked it), or at least an eye-roller; I just found it to be funny instead of cool, as I still do. At the least, it's got some great bass and is unique!
On a more serious note, I loved the existentialist/nonreligious and humanistic themes of the song and album which helped spark my (so far) lifelong pursuit of the study of philosophy (I just posted a couple books along these lines in the "what book are you reading now" thread for anyone interested).
A favorite:
^ Really good release from Sanders imo. Perfect blend of 80's production and jazz (and his big sax tone is in the forefront of the mix). Even AMG liked it.
