Might give this one a spin, too, as suggested by Roon ...

Thelonious Monk - At Carnegie Hall.png

For today - some big band brilliance:

Recorded Dec 30, 1963, at Philharmonic Hall in NYC. Some songs are Monk's
current quartet, but on six tracks the band is expanded to 10 musicians for a
solid, big-band, sound.
The drummer's name is Frankie Dunlop.

The genius of Thelonious Monk.

A modern-day big band specializing in the music of Charles Mingus. The
musicians are top-notch and have mastered the music. This is their first
recording, from 1993, and there are others. Highly recommended.
This track was arranged by Sy Johnson, who played with Mingus. Sy passed
away in July 2022 aged 92.
