On the 'Schiit Happened' Head-Fi forum, @45longcolt asked what people's favourite 50 year old album was.
He posted Close to the Edge by Yes - a brilliant album!
A friend of mine reminded me that Argus by Wishbone Ash had just passed its 50th anniversary
It got me thinking about all the great albums released in 1972, and these were 10 which I posted on the other forum:
Close to the Edge Yes
Caravanserai Santana
Harvest Neil Young
Barnstorm Joe Walsh
Live Cream Vol II
Argus Wishbone Ash
The Road Goes Ever On Mountain
Living in the Past Jethro Tull
Never a Dull Moment Rod Stewart
...and 'Bandstand' by Family.
Family were ( in my opinion) a hugely under-rated band.
Great song writing and musicianship plus a brilliant front man in Roger Chapman.
This album and their last one 'It's Only a Movie' from 1973 are my favourites.
Bandstand contains the brilliant single 'Burlesque' as well as other superb songs like 'My Friend the Sun' 'Coronation' and 'Glove'
Edit: RIP John Wetton: 12.6.49- 31.1.17. A wonderful bass player.
Probably best known for his time in 'Asia' but he was in Family at the time Bandstand was recorded.
