Recorded in January 1971, the Massey Hall show brings us Neil just a few years into one of the great careers in rock history. This second live release in Neil Young's long-awaited and now briskly-paced Archives series, shows that this aspect of Young's persona had already matured in 1971, when the singer was only 26. Coming on the heels of last year's Live at Fillmore East(1970), a disc of barnstorming distortion-pedal epics with his preferred partners Crazy Horse, this birthplace performance is representative of the abrupt downshifts that have marked Young's career. He'd already set the pattern of eclecticism that would become his hallmark with the psychedelic folk-rock of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby Stills Nash & Young before ditching both bands for better things. He'd formed Crazy Horse, the on-and-off backing band for his most blistering electric work in the decades to come. But here alone at the piano or on a stool playing the acoustic guitar singing with the voice of angles, Neil performs his writtings, some yet to be recorded and to be released as Harvest, just stunningly !

What has always been the main variable to set Jethro Tull apart , has been their steadfast loyalty to acoustic music with Ian Anderson's beloved flute and masterful vocals as presentd here. With the opening to Skating Away, Ians pouring, stirring and sipping/slurping his afternoons hot tea between humming the tune, as heard on a hi resolution system being magically fun

This is very well done and the sound is superb. Highly recommended music from an extremely underrated musician and composer.
