If I played this randomly for you, you would think it’s Tatyana Shmayluk singing the new Jinjer album. Yet really Ignea is more symphonic metal with middle eastern elements thrown in. Both female singers share the same Ukraine homeland and clean/growler dualities in vocal style. Knowing nothing of this band prior I was almost guessing it truly was Tatyana Shmayluk on vocals at times. The Realms Of Fire And Death is the perfect length at 41:50, has a absolutely spot-on production for an independent band (or any band) along with tasteful song sequencing and pace. The main difference here though is there is no Lamb Of God style influence which Jinjer is so well known for. Although one song “Jinnslammer” finally does actually add it thus making Ignea become the ultimate Jinjer clone even more? The song Black Flame gets sung in their native language as second on album placement then added as a bonus song at the end sung in English. In such an experiment the original home-language version takes the cake. Is this how many Ukraine female fronted metal bands sound? Is there an army of them all independent and unknown? If anything being around since 2011 as Parallax shows the group to be mature and sophisticated, even though relatively unknown. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the similarities to Lacuna Coil....so I will. Yet with all these comparisons The Realms Of Fire And Death comes off all it’s own as individual and special. It’s safe to say we have another very unique vocalist (compared to most) who has a special talent and character even if it will remind you of another.
