I just about wore out my Time Loves A Hero cassette in the summer of '77.

'70 VW bug on a Radio Shack car cassette deck rigged to a pair of small portable speakers.Talk about road tunes! These songs still sound amazing some 40+ years later. These guys were master musicians unconstrained by any type of categorization.

Thanks - that evokes some great images! Aah the summer of '77 ... I was shoveling Schiit to help pay for college.
While all are good, I think Time Loves A Hero is my favorite of their #1-6 studio albums. The band got better with time. A very eclectic balance of music :)

The band's 7th studio album on the Warner Bros. label, released in 1979.
Delightful, and a bit different ... some tracks sound like The Dead or Steely Dan.

Great live blues by two of the kings ... Jimmy & Tab. Swampy & sublime @ 16/44.1 FLAC
Thanks to @whirlwind for the idea!

Yeah, eclectic is a great word for them. I mean think of the spareness of "Missing You" and then "Red Streamliner". "Red Streamliner" is, I dunno, I can't think of anyone or anything I can compare that style to, it's a complete hybrid of jazz fusion, Southern rock, soul (and skillful use of Michael McDonald backup vocals a la Steely Dan), etc!
