Listening w/ HD600 > Vintage Kenwood KA-8006 Integrated Amplifier, 70wpc (1974) > Cambridge Azur 851C

I sometimes forget how superb the KA-8006 can sound with certain recordings : very musical, clear, warm but not dark, superb highs, no graininess, beautiful rich mids both upper & lower with no distortion in the layers and a deep, yet tight soundstage bass. What I've always liked about this amp is the bass & treble basic tone knobs : turning the knobs clockwise increases bass & treble tone and counterclockwise decreases bass & treble tone, each step provides a 2 dB boost or cut; "0" position provides completely flat frequency with tone control circuit deactivated. Turnover switches supplement the bass and treble (200 Hz or 400 Hz for bass control; 3 kHz or 6 kHz for treble). There are also a low filter switch (attenuates low frequencies below 20 Hz or 40 Hz & high filter switch attenuates high frequencies above 7 kHz or 12 kHz. There are also a loudness switch & a mute switch which can be left off or adjusted at 10 dB or 20 dB which affects the volume and which sometimes helps eliminate some graininess in the sound. At mute the sound is louder; I usually set this switch at 20 dB and then adjust the volume accordingly. I find the sound to be clearer when set this way. I've had this amp for years. It's a gem.
