I read an interview with Donald Fagan in Rolling Stone a couple of months ago and saw Steely Dan in concert back in September. He seems like he might be clinically depressed or something. He seems like he would be a "difficult" person. He was almost hostile to the audience. I chalked it up to him being a temperamental artist probably tired of touring. I was super pleased with the concert. I still love their music. Maybe he is behind what you mention above...

I just completed playing "Aja" 2o minutes ago....

That makes three of us. That drumming by Steve Gadd in the title track just calls for volume/loudness switch thrown.......
