45rpm vinyl mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman. I'm really thankful to Music Matters for including this in their selection of Blue Note vinyl reissues for otherwise it is very unlikely I would have ever heard of this album. This is perhaps not an essential Blue Note record but I like it a whole lot. It features awesome solos from Herbie Hancock and I highly recommend it to people who have enjoyed Bobby Hutcherson as a sideman on such records as "Out to Lunch!", "Destination Out!" and "Idle Moments". What makes this session immediately stand out from a lot of other jazz dates is the obvious lack of horns, which I don't find myself missing in the least, despite being a big saxophone fan.

This album is very sweet. I can listen to this album in it's entirety all the time. I wish it did have a tad more head room as it sounds like just a tad too much dither was applied to the red book master, but it doesn't distract from a wonderful listening experience. Definitely recommend this album to those first-time Grateful Dead listeners. :)

Great album. By the way, since you are a fan of the record, HDTracks has it available in 96 / 24 released in 2012. I have the 96 / 24 version, and it sounds great to me. I also own the Redbook CD, but it is in a storage unit in a different city so I can't do a direct comparison. I downloaded the 96 / 24 since I didn't have access to my CD. Maybe you can do some Googling to find out if the 96 / 24 is worth it.
