This and his work with the two Jeff Beck Group albums are the very best he has ever done. Next for me, are the years with the Faces and while good, not in the same class as the three. Its a shame that the reunion with Jeff Beck which was in the planning stages three years ago did not come to fruition. IMO Rod the Mod realized he could not match JB in musicianship, that Jeff like fine wine (which I don't know a lick about) improved with age and he didn't so he called it off. Jeff even laid down backing tracks for a new album.......shame it and a tour did not happen.
BTW, Rod played the Mandolin on Mandolin Wind on the album which blew me away as I did not think he had that in him. I did see him in concert as a solo performer (also many times with the Faces to numerous to count) and he played the Mandolin in it too. And he kicked a lot of soccer balls into the audience LOL
From Greenleaf Music:
Acclaimed saxophonist Donny McCaslin takes a bold leap forward with his tenth album as a leader, Casting for Gravity. McCaslin’s gargantuan tenor sound finds an ideal setting to rampage through in the ferocious grooves and electronic textures of keyboardist Jason Lindner, bassist Tim Lefebvre, and drummer Mark Guiliana. Couching his trademark gift for brawny melodies in lurching dub rhythms, swirling electronica-inspired atmospheres, and arena-rock power, McCaslin has crafted a game-changer of an album, fusing a wealth of forward-looking influences into one wholly new modern jazz sound.
