Steely Dan - Gaucho

Amazingly good mastering :)

I think Royal Scam is my favorite, but Aja, Gaucho, Katy Lied, Pretzel Logic are all awesome

Although, not a huge DAN fan, of the few albums I've heard I'd have to put Aja in the number one slot. And I think it's a shame that it continues to be M.I.A. from HDTracks.

That album holds such a special place in my heart. It was released on June 9, 1978. I went to see the Stones for the first time just a few days later on June 17, 1978, at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. All of those songs were brand new to me and everyone else when I got to see them play them live. For that concert, they had "festival seating," meaning no reserved seats. (This was before all those people were trampled to death at The Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979.) People had been waiting outside the stadium for about a week in advance of the show as that was the best way to get close to the stage. Just try to imagine the condition of thousands of Stones fans who had been living and partying in a parking lot for about a week in 1978! There was a full-scale riot before the show as mounted police attacked the crowd waiting to get in, and I was right in the middle of it!

It was an unforgettable experience to say the least!

Also, remember, in 1978 Keith Richards was facing very serious heroin charges in Canada, and it looked like he might be going away for a very long time. No one knew Keith's fate at that point. (And that is what the song, "Before They Make Me Run" is all about...)

You will still need to pick up a copy of the Deluxe Edition, because it has 12 extra songs. To me, the best of them is one of Keith's songs called, "We Had It All." It's just a fantastic Keith song that had been lost to history until recently.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the info - I never knew about any that apart from the deluxe edition's extra tracks. Some Girls is definitely one of my favourite Rolling Stones albums. The songs and the sound of the album are of really high quality (excuse the pun [unintentional] :)

Having another listen to Some Girls again now.

Sounds like with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo OST for me. Reznor and Ross blew it away (the soundtrack was an hour longer than the movie), but the movie was mediocre.

Easily a favorite soundtrack, but not a favorite movie. I do like the Batman movies, however.

One of my favourite soundtracks, didn't care much about the movie though.

I recently considered getting the Deluxe edition of this album but read that the original Virgin remaster had 'better' sound quality. I found the Virgin remaster yesterday whilst on holiday in Costa Blanca and am currently listening to it and sipping a Blue Hawaiian - rockin'!

We had this playing when the lights came back on durring "The Blizzard of '78"here in Rogues Island with a group of us holed up as the 3 day state of emergency blizzard outlawed driving, with halarity ensuing , as you might imagine ;')

Cheers ~

Yes. There is quite a bit of material on the web about that show.

You'll have to scroll way down, but here's some info:

There's a bootleg of the show, but I've never heard it:

That was the first time I ever went to a Stones show. I've seen them five more times since then.

I was at that show! June 17th is my birthday. The weather was terrible. If I remember correctly the Stones part of the show was abbreviated. They only played something like a little over an hour with no encore? People were pissed, I was near the front and when the Stones didn't come back, and after all the standing in the rain, people started throwing stuff from the back. I was in a rain of cans and bottles. I think that I read later that Mick had the flu or something...does that sound familiar? (I saw them again at JFK..."Start Me Up" was new on that tour. Mick danced around for quite a while in an Eagles jersey. It was a much better show overall.
