For those looking to buy a Yiggy or recently did, which input option would tempt you the most?

1. Do nothing/spend nothing more.
2. Schiit Wyrd, $100
3. JCAT / Intona Isolator, $420
4. Teddy Pardo U2S, $499
5. Audiophilleo2 MkII U2S, $579
6. Wait for the Schiit Uber Wyrd2 as hinted by @Baldr a few pages back.
7. Something else?

Or you could get a Mac so you can use SPDIF output instead of USB.  Or Thunderbolt-to-whatever if you prefer.

I have little/no idea about those cards and which ones are on the market. Do you know of any that are half-height PCIe?

Search on pro gear sites like Sweetwater.

Also:

With the new MacBook Pro now only having USB-C/Thunderbolt connectors, and the widespread usage of Macs in the pro AV sector for editing and post-production use, I think it's the beginning of the end for 'classic USB' as a computer audio interface.

The DAR-ko site says the Aurender n100h (streamer only) USB output does not benefit from any device between the n100h and the Yggy.

Can anyone confirm that?
Will the new usb3 mean the end of all these expensive overpriced "device in the middle" products.

Thanks for any reply

If you want to buy a streamer, get one that has other outputs besides USB. Potential problems solved. The other inputs are better anyway.

Depends on how much you have to throw at the problem.  I'm using a Cubox-i as a streamer and I get much better performance out of Cubox-i->USB->Singxer SU-1 DDC->DAC than the other option I have (Cubox-i->Toslink->DAC).

Best of the USB DDCs is purported to be the Empical Audio Off-Ramp 5.  Outputs include S/PDIF (BNC), AES/EBU (XLR), TTL I2S (RJ-45) and LVDS I2S (HDMI).

Woah.$1300 for that. Should buy one for the Modi2 MB!

Sonore microRendu + good PS (currently Teddy Pardo, soon to be UpTone LPS-1). Total ~$1000, but it does more than the items above as it streams over Ethernet from your remotely placed (and thus less interfering) music storage/serving system (in my case an Intel NUC).

I too used USB>S/PDIF converters (Bel Canto mLink) when I had Cubox-i streamers, but they became redundant when I switched to microRendus with good power supplies.

Earlier this year, Seattle Head-Fiers muziqboy, soundsgoodtome, johnjen, atomicbob, grizzlybeast showed up at meets with Rednet boxes, Dante software, and Ethernet cables. I listened. Jaw dropped. Last week I did a beer budget version iMac/Dante > Ethernet cable > Atterotech unDaes-O box > XLR to Yggy, $700ish for everything. No USB in sight. "Master of Redbook" Yggy essence unchanged. Just a couple panes of glass removed and Windex used on the rest.

Don't have time for obnoxious raving about it now. Bill Frisell, Gillian Welch, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, James Blood Ulmer, Jeff Beck, and Miles are in my listening room.

And since the Jggy does its best work with 44.1 redbook, this just makes the un-Daes-O (what kind of a name is that?) an ideal digital audio feed for anything up to 96K for us Audiophools.

AND it has AES output, which is in and of itself a significant step up as well.

...and at the next meet I'll have to sell the JJ Signature Edition breakout cable I prematurely bought for the Rednet. :D
