nice one larry, but I hate to say, the nikon is functioning as it should and any other camera would do the same if you had auto focus on. especially with a translucent subject and soft fuzzy background, thats a hard ask of auto focus. try putting it on manual focus with macro.

the cable is totally different to W3 totally different

well of course I dont know personally, but you can see just by looking at them that they are the same as the ES2 custom cable and not like the W3; that being said I havent had the issue of which you speak with my W3 and I dont keep mine in a case

HeadphoneAddict/ Sasaki,
Is there a difference in (build) quality between the ES3X and the W3 cable?
Thanks

The ES3X cable is thicker and very tightly twisted, and looks almost like a piccolino cable from afar. It's very nice, nicer than W3 cable, and I'm one of those with Zero issues with the stock thin W3 cable.

I'll give that a try today and post better photos.

good to hear, it was just something I read in one of the W3 threads about the cable unraveling. Don't think its a widespread thing so might not really be a defect anyway. Was just curious

Thanks, HeadphoneAddict. Glad you're enjoying your ES3X so much.

RE stupid Nikon: check if your camera will do different focus points. At the very least, it should be able to focus on center instead of picking a focus point automatically. Read up on focus points in the manual, though make sure that the lighting is good. The darker the object, the more difficult it is to focus on it. Whenever you do purely automated focusing with a narrow depth of field, you will always have problems like this.

RE cable: if it's the same as the ES2, then you have nothing to worry about. The ES2 cable is one of the best. OTOH it looks to me like the plug and socket they use are also the same as on the ES2, and they can get a bit weak over time. I had mine break, but then again my ES2 went around the world with me (literally) and I put it through hell. So with proper care it should last.

Sasaki/HPA, I forgot to ask, what sort of accessories does it come with, ie case, cleaning, etc?

I'll take a photo - it comes in a pelican water-tight case, with desiccant, a bottle of oto-ease, a chamois, a sound tube cleaner, warrantee card, and various instructions, with a laminated card tied to the case with your name and SN and manufacture date on it, and small carabiner attached to it. And of course the customs and cable attached inside.

Hey Larry,

While you have the camera out, would love to see a pic of the case and accessories? Thanks in advance!

it does, but I just suggested manual focus as a quick fix before he goes into all the different focus techniques. you can actually set a number of focus points not really sure how that works as its a pretty neat trick, great for sport.

anyway enough OT.

cool I thought it looked quite a bit thicker (the cable) is silver/clear the only option??

This Nikon Coolpix L12 doesn't seem to allow manual focus. I need to find my Nikon S6 that I used on vacation 2 months ago, and try it. I can't get too close, but I can move back, turn on macro and them zoom in on the subject.
