Thank you for your opinions. The seller will replace it with no damage on the cables and already with a red wire.  And hopefully the lines surrounding the "s" will be thinner as what you guys are saying. The seller is a respectable seller in my country and I don't think he would risk his already very high reputation by selling fakes or his business will go down. Maybe he just missed the one he sold me. But as for the sound quality, it is really very good and sounds just like how head-fi'ers described them should be. No distortion heard. I will post the picture of the replacement for your comments.

At last I decided to get the IE8's, and got them from bay from a 2000 odd 100% feedback seller who I quizzed before hand.  He said they were purchased from an apple store (still brand new).  Got them for £140.

Have now received them and looking at the photos they appear perfectly genuine, one observation I have that I dont know has been pointed out or not is the bass tuning knob is flat topped on the real ones and rounded/chamfered edges on the fakes like a round top screw.  Also the foam cut out where they sit in the case goes to a point at the top (fake) instead of a flat, and is generally a slightly different shape.  I would say the angle of the R/L prints is a bit tough to choose between, as others have said, but I think the genuine ones have a softer grey colour.

Given they are supposed to sound worse, it is slightly worrying some people can't tell the difference.  I dont know if that is testimony to how good the fakes are or how good the placebo effect is when spending this sort of money!  Also worrying that well known sites such as amazon and play can easily fall foul of this particularly with their trade areas now. It certainly isnt limited to ebay.

With mine also, there was a barcode on the back with the original price of £249.99, and underneath the price was a number which when I typed into google came up with loads of links to the apple website listing for them - so it must be their internal product number.  Matches the sellers claim.

I did save myself a bit of hassle by mailing one seller saying if they are fake I will check them and I will claim on paypal who will take you to court to reclaim money.  He soon replied admitting they were fake.  If anyone has purchased fakes on ebay, claim on paypal ASAP even if it didnt list them as genuine - it is against rules to sell any counterfeit goods, whether they tell you or not.

Interesting text on sennheiser website:
e-bay & Amazon Marketplace
Sennheiser UK accepts NO responsibility for this type of purchase. Please see our article on e-bay purchases.
Unfortunately the high volume of fake products preclude us from supporting this purchase route.
Sennheiser UK strongly recommends purchasing ONLY from authorised dealers.

Have you called Sennheirser yet? If Sennserheir confirm "Recording Services & Supply" is their authorized seller, your earphones should be real. What exactly is the problem, did they fall apart?
Edit:
Oh, I got it. Because they said those are OEM, that scared you. Many people use the word OEM "loosely"; for example, one famous computer maker replaced  some of our monitors, they said they'll send "OEM monitors", those replacements are retail package -- so, they meant "OEM = their official product". Another computer company sent a few extra mouses to us, they came in plain box - so, they meant "OEM = bulk package product".

Recording Services & Supply are on the Sennheiser USA website as authorized sellers,i have checked it out.
But yes they said they were OEM,so that had me thinking because Sennheiser dont make IE8 OEM's.I bought them because they were an authorized seller,i just posted the pics and wanted a second opinion for peace of mind....thanks

This is the DEFINITION of the placebo effect.

Listen to them. If you can't tell if they are fake or real by the sound then who cares? Obviously you shouldn't be buying phones in such a steep price range if you can't tell the difference between a $400 set of earphones and a generic knock-off.
