VZR Model One

What I assumed neutral was is something that does not lack or excel at any specific sound. Something that can play any genre of music just as well as the next.
This is a a great expression of a neutral mental model, imho. I think for people who have a similar experience set, who are just starting to explore and don’t have a background in professional audio, you are probably going to have a fair share of experience in a Dolby powered theater system.

That’s a good neutral point for you to consider the neutrality of headphones against. “How similar is this headphone’s performance to how it sounds in a Dolby room?” Is a great question to help with calibration.

By this definition of neutral, the VZRs perform incredibly. After having done some movie watching and more music listening, I agree with you that the stock tuning on these being excellent. They also respond very well to EQ and work for an extremely wide variety of applications. Most of the time I never yearn for higher quality bass from the VZRs, usually higher quantity for certain genres but the stock tuning is revolutionary for its versatility. I also read in this thread that these can run balanced so I’m going to give the Qudelix 5K a shot given your praise for it and it’s relatively low price.

You have to make or buy a custom cable for balanced. Any balanced cable with 3.5mm mono plugs will work.

Glad you to help. Generally, true neutrality in a speaker like way has only been possible with speakers in an ideal room. Until these things came along and put a Dolby room experience on your ears.

I’d love to hear the stealth one day but I just can’t imagine how a perfectly Harman direct firing driver can get to speakers in a good room quite like this.

Quidelix’s superpower is the built in AutoEq. It’s not quite as well performing as say the FiiO BTR5 but it can provide an ideal DSP on the go for all your cans. It saved my Audeze iSine after they stopped making the lightning cipher cable.

I’m eventually going to buy the Mojo2/Poly for the VZR.

Have you tried? There’s reports coming in that balanced works but I’ve never tried.
Yea I'm the one who made the balanced cable lol.

The biggest issue is the small diameter of the recess where the headphone plugs go. Many connectors are too big in diameter. I actually have a custom cable on order from hart audio since I use their modular system and confirmed theirs fit.

They’re not particularly expensive I think I found one that should work.

It may also be possible to grind down a plug a bit, I will check out Hart Audio as well though.

It might be possible to grind it down I just ordered some ends off Amazon and soldered them on a cable I had. I'm not sure if SQ is any better tbh it's not a super high quality cable I used but it definitely give way more volume to the point if you swap without changing column you might hurt your ears.

Theoretically balanced cables give a better noise floor but in practice I am not sure how noticeable it is. The volume difference might be important depending on how much hearing damage one already has. I wish I had some soldering equipment so I could do like what you said rather than trying to source a perfect fit.

yup theyre pretty nutty with EQ.
This is the config I landed on, it definitely muffles the highs, but that is not it's purpose. This is made for MAXIMUM BASS IMPACT.
