VSonic VSD1/VSD1S Reviews/Impression Thread

Thought I replied . . . so hope this is not a duplicate. I know what you mean. I consider my skull candy Titans (ducks behind shield) to be a 'fun' phone. But I reach for my GR99's over those now.

I think my problem is solved . . . sort of.

I decided to get all the tips I've accumulated and I'm having some luck getting a good cable down fit. I'm using a fairly wide tip and not trying to shove them in so far and im finding a sweet spot for sound. At the right insertion the music opens up nicely.  So looks like I can start using my VSD1's more. Also I'm getting a warranty replacement for the VC02. Never figured on that since I lost the driver . . . But good on Lend Me Ur Ears for getting my back.

So if the VSD's are back on the table is the VSD1S the love child of the VC02 and VSD1?

the VSD1S is great for jazz and classical. Instrumental music and vocal music. If you listen to, or want them for metal/rock/punk/EDM/Rap/Dubstep/ect...then these are not for you. The bass doesn't articulate well with those types of genres, and the guitars become grainy.

I don't think you would feel an upgrade by going from VSD1 to GR02be. I owned the GR02be for a year, then bought the VSD1, and I kinda regretted that. Not because the VSD1 is bad, but it wasn't the upgrade I hoped it would be. I was pretty disappointed so I got the GR07be only a month after that, baaad for my wallet, but totally worth the upgrade

. Since Vsonic IEMs already have so great value for money, if you want to have an upgrade, you'll have to pay much than that. The GR02be has a V-shape sound signature, colder and cleaner; while VSD1 is fuller and warmer. Bass isn't bloated at all IMO, it has pretty much the same impact with the GR07be, but less details and texture. But noted that the GR02be sound is a lot different than the VSD1, so if you like the VSD1, you might not like the GR02be

Super info, thanks. I do like the VSD1 sound. What I miss from the VC02 is the better definition in drums. I can better distinguish between the kick drum and the bass, the floor toms sound more realistic. Also with the VC02  I can better hear room acoustics/audio effects (reverb, etc). But in between those things the VSD1 does a 'nicer' job.

But if I had to choose I'd take the VC02. I'd rather tame treble and boost bass, rather than tame (clean up) bass and boost treble. Does that make sense?

So my search for the possible love child between the two.

I'm on the market for one last pair of IEM's, to spell my TF 10 use, and though my GR99's are superb and fun, the drop off in quality is just too steep between them and the TF 10, so I'm researching some potential candidates. Budget from $50-90 (and no, the HiFiMan RE-400 ect or anything HiFiMan are not considered, as they have some of the most boring and lack of energy sigs ever), and yes I want them to perform well outside their price point.

Some early contenders...

Vsonic VC02
Meelectronics M-Duo
Vsonic VC1000
Zero Audio Carbo Basso DX210
JVC FXD80

Any other suggestions?

How are VSD1LE different apart from the engraved number?

Apart from the present price difference of $27-$32(LEs are pricier) below are the tech specs that differentiates them besides the included stock tips and foamies.

LE:
Rated impedance: 80Ω+/-10%, Sensitivity: ≧105dB  (at500Hz) , Frequency range: 7Hz-30,000Hz,1.30m  TPU  cable,4-42 core high purity silver plated wires +/- 3%

VSD1/S: (VSD1 is good for pop, vocal and rock music / VSD1S is good for: female solo, classical, symphonic, classical and jazz music)
Rated impedance: 32Ω+/-10%, Sensitivity: ≧110dB  (at500Hz),  Frequency range: 10Hz-22,000Hz,1.30m TPU  cable, 4 X 20 core  high purity silver plated wires +/- 3%

This is a little easier for me to see the differences.

VSD1S ($42) - Prices from Penon Audio

Rated impedance: 32Ω+/-10%
Sensitivity: ≧110dB  (at500Hz)
Frequency range: 10Hz-22,000Hz
Channel balance: ≤3dB (at 500Hz)
Cable: 1.30m TPU  cable, 4 X 20 core  high purity silver plated wires +/- 3%

VSD1S-LE ($69)

Rated impedance: 80Ω+/-10%
Sensitivity: ≧105dB  (at500Hz)
Frequency range: 7Hz-30,000Hz
Channel balance: ≤1dB (at 500Hz)≤1.5db(at 20Hz-12.5KHz)
Cable: 1.30m  TPU  cable,4-42 core high purity silver plated wires +/- 3%

I don't see the reason for all the specs quotes as they aren't indicative of the difference in the performance.
Anyway, as I've said before, the difference isn't that big. Obviously the LE is a tad harder to driver due to the higher impedance. The LE has a bit darker background, which leads to slightly better depth and center image. The LE's not as full and airy as its brothers and lacks a bit of air on top but has a bit better separation.
Overall, the LE is slightly more focused and accurate sounding.

Auvio tips have really brought my VSD1 Classics to (new) life. The bass quality just sounds so much more inviting and it took care of the small bass leak into the mid-range. I'm using the double flange tips and it seems to have brought the mid range a little more forward.

The nozzle can be turned in multiple directions so that it can fit better inside your ear.

that's the problem, i can't turn mines.
