VSONIC GR07 Classic Color 2014 Edition: Unboxing and first impressions
Jul 31, 2014 at 3:39 PM Post #166 of 310
Bought a pair of these in wine from LMUE after reccomendations and narrowing down from Joker and lots and lots of thread reading!

Will be my first proper IEM, coming from a Klipsch S4, but I like to think I know good sound, have some decent over ears and a detailed ear as a musician and producer. Can't wait to try em and report back.

Mine arrived a couple days ago from Lend Me Ur Ears. Mine DID have the proper "GR07 Classic" stickers, and the same accessories as others have posted.  (S, M, L, double flange, and Comply eartips, in addition to the ear hooks)

I decided to wait a bit to listen and post some impressions so far. My total use is easily under 100 hours.
So far, testing with various music, I can say that these are very impressive.

A small sample of the tracks used: (As you can see, quite a few different genres!)

"Rolling in the Deep" - The Piano Guys
"Radars Over The Ghosts Of Chernobyl" - Lights Out Asia
"Breathe" - Alexi Murdoch
"Piercing the Sky" - Magnus Pålsson
"The Safety Dance" - Men Without Hats
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
"This Cowboy's Hat" - Chris LeDoux

Bass:
It has quite a bit of "power" to it, but it does stay remarkably controlled. It's a touch punchy like BA bass, but it always has a feeling of authority. They do not, however, feel boosted in the low end unlike my Denon AH-C300 (not surprising, as they are VERY different 'phones) They maintain this power, even at their lowest reaches.

Mids:
The ids are quite detailed. I would not call it "rich" or any such term, as it sounds much like a BA: Quite quick and lean. Though, unlike my BA 'phones, it does sound a bit smoother, which makes it a touch more relaxing. Vocals sound "just right" to my ear.

Highs:
This is where a slight issue comes in: The lower highs are a bit boosted, resulting in some "detail" but more often it becomes sibilant in some tracks. Not a surprise, as it's been noted before, but still a little bit unpleasant. The rest of the highs are very good. It isn't all too "fun," but it is very neutral, which I actually do find fun. They are quite detailed, and revealing, but not ruthlessly so. You can happily listen to most things, but these WILL exasperate any sibilance, if present.
They also extend quite a ways, instead of being... faded off? (I can't remember the term) I like this.
Overall thoughts:
They are very neutral, and have a rather spacious soundstage. They're much warmer than what I'm used to (BA headphones such as the HF5 and R-50, so that's ok) They are not QUITE as detailed as the BA 'phones, but they come VERY close. They do have more bass and sub-bass presence, though they remain controlled and detailed. The mids are again detailed and controlled.

Nothing really stands out on these, so they don't specialise in any specific genre of music. That's perfect IMO, as they sound great for everything I've thrown at them. If you're a fan of neutral headphones, for $100, they're really good. I'd suggest picking a pair up.

I am usually tougher on earphones than some others but, IMO, it is more than halfway through 2014. Nobody should be buying GR06's or the NVX's anymore with the choices in the market now including the new VSD's. Lendmeurears try to bundle theGR06 to get rid of them cause they obviously aren't selling and probably shouldn't be any longer. It was only pretty good back in it's day and now the GR06 shouldn't be very competitive. Remember the GR06 was odd cause it was not a high model and any GR06 should be close to GR07 cause of the naming/numbers was a misconception. Other people should be steered towards the Classic, the Vivo XE800, and the new VSD models.

Well, it's not that the gr06 isn't a good iem but they should have cut the price in half by now like they did with the gr04 flagship. For $30 it would be still selling but there is absolutely no reason to buy it for 60 bucks with the vsd1 and vsd3 available for cheaper, which are both better. Hell, it got obsolete 2 years ago with the gr04 flagship's price cut as it was selling for 50 bucks and was easily better.

Well, I have ran into a major issue with these.  Got mine back in March, and yesterday the right insert has completely stopped producing sound of any kind.  I am beyond bummed out right now.  I have contacted lendmeurears.com to see if I can claim the warranty or not.

Should be fine if it was in March since it's a one year warranty. I've even heard of LMUE RMAing out of warranty, so I think you'll be ok.

Good to hear.  It is a total mood killer having to listen just to the one side.  Guess I will have to go to Yodobashi to find some sort of replacement.

I read that as "Yobidashi" at first and wondered why you would want to go to one of those, lol. Do headphones tend to be cheaper in Japan? I know some things are grossly overpriced compared to Western markets, while others are incredible bargains.

I would say it depends were you go, and/or what you are getting. I find electronics to be even keel, while clothing you may need to sacrifice a months wage or two.

I shared some images of my Classics in the GR07 impressions thread and was encouraged to post them here aswell, if someone might enjoy it. Just some eye candy, nothing more.

Well, my GR07CE have been shipped out to LendMeURears for repair. The wait is going to be brutal.  I ended up grabbing Audio Technica ATH-IM04 for the time being, and they are no means an upgrade of any kind imho.

Nice catch you got there.
