Victor HA-FW10000: 10th Anniversary model

I'm also still in the quest to find the perfect cable for the FW10k. I tried 1960s 4-wire and I kinda agree with what's been said here. Somehow not the monster it is when paired with my Z1R. I have the 1950s and 1960s 4-wire in 2-pin form as well but I don't like the idea of getting a converter to try it on the FW.

Since you live in HK, is it possible to get your opinion on the pairing with 1950s? I assume it would be available in an audio store there somewhere?

It's either the 1950s or Dream Duet for me as of now.

Yes, will report back once I have the opportunity to try out a 1950's with the FW10K.

Cheers

I finally have had the chance to try out pairing my JVC with the 1950s. In short, I still prefer either the Tri-Silver or Dream Duet. To me, pairing with the 1950s is already quite an improvement over the 1960s, more engaging and lively, and the fine details resolved are superb. Yet, technically it somehow lacks the weight and musically that unique magical charm the Dream Duet is giving to the music. I guess it'll be difficult for me to part with the Dream Duet at least for long while.:)

Are you trying to dislike the Dream?

They're pairing FW1500 with SP2000 instead of JVC DAC/amp during their product launch events in China

It's getting even closer to the end of November, no signs of balanced cables and also nothing about successor of SU-AX01 so far

They're just focusing on whole bunch of Bluetooth products and therefore it might not be such a high priority to work on less popular products?

BTW, it's also interesting to see this new flagship model A8000 from Final

That "MMCX ASSIST" tool looked quite useful for swapping cables.

Now what do I get for Black Friday when JVC won't have anything new for me this year? It might be a good idea to wait for DX220Max if that were actually living up to all the hype.

I bought an FW1500 a week ago after listening to it at e-earphone Tsutaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, with my Cowon Plenue L. I doubt that you would need a dedicated headphone amp with it, even with the single-ended stock cable, if you have a good enough DAP. The specs are on paper very similar between FW1500 and FW10000, except for sensitivity ( FW1500 is 103db/1mW and FW10000 102db/1mW). Both have 11 mm driver, are rated 6Hz - 52.000 Hz and 16ohm.

I wanted to burn it in with the stock cable first, before starting to experiment with some balanced cables or the Aune B1S amp that I have. I just LOVE the sound and the soundstage of FW1500 – both a huge step up from the FW01 at twice the price. I am pretty sure that the difference between FW1500 and FW10000 is not as big at three times the price. The FW1500 comes with the same case as FW01, except for the logo (His Master's Voice for 1500), so not as great as some Campfire Audio cases and not similar to FW10000, which I still have not managed to see in real life. Until then, I guess I will be very happy with FW1500. If someone living in EU would be interested in a pair of FW01 in "as good as new" condition, let me know. It was JVC's top of the line model until FW10000 (2018) and now its little brother FW1500 (2019) came along.

I picked up a Sony PHA-3 a while back after I figured that JVC wasn’t going to release anything. It was about $610 usd from Amazon Japan brand new. Works like a charm and the best thing about it is that you don’t have to be glued to a wall outlet to get the best sound from it.

If you ever get to hold a pair of FW10K you'll quickly realize why they cost so much more than the FW1500.

You are probably right! I know that in high end audio, for the last 10 % improvement you might have to pay double or triple the price, compared to 90 % perfect..... How does the FW10K work with the your cable Sony MUC-M12SB1? I am curious of that 4.4 plug balanced cable for my FW1500, too.

Wasn't talking about sound, as I have no idea how the two compare soundwise. I was just talking about build quality, materials, etc.. The FW10K is just incredibly special in that regard.

Regarding the Kimber cable, it pairs really well with the FW10K. Until JVC (finally) decides to release the 4.4mm balanced version of the original FW10K cable, I will stick with the Kimber, as I prefer using the balanced output.

The difference in build quality and materials is easy to spot even from photos. It is obvious. For me the sound is the main thing, but FW1500 looks quite boring in comparison to FW10K. I can live with modest looks if it does not break too easily.

The mentioned Sony Kimber cable is interesting, will definitely try to find one. I have a few Japanese and Chinese balanced cables, but so far nothing has sounded clearly better than the stock cable on FW1500. Onso iect_03 balanced 4.4 cable brings in almost too much sub bass, making FW1500 sound rather similar to Campfire Jupiter, but is quite promising after 20 + hours of burn in.

One thing though, the cable is not particularly light, so if you are thinking of using it on the go, it might prove challenging, given the cable orientation on the FW1500.
