  Not to get off topic, but I see that the LCD-X was not on your list.  You might have saved $1700 by skipping those.

 
If they'd been there I would have tried a set, LOL. I admit the LCD-XC is on my radar. I'd say the ones I need to try now are the LCD-XC, Denon D7000, Fostex TH600/900, and (more than the rest) the Perfect Sound d901 Dido

Just came back from (probably that same) B&H Photo with some brand new M-100's...! right before they closed, insane in there

got the matte black, I liked the plates on the shadow but everything else on the matte black

--I would definitely prefer the XL pads(glasses too), but wouldn't want to take the bass cut. They sound pretty airy to me stock, so I'd rather not have to choose between the two.

also resisted trying a slew of top of lines, hd800's etc... I'll let these m100's settle for a bit.


Sounds great so far, everything's in their right place. Soundstage/imaging great... Bass not NEARLY as overpowering as I thought. 2013 Beats certainly takes that one...  but the m100's destroy overall.

I wear glasses when I'm wearing the M-100's without any real problems. The arms on my specs are just flat steel or metal of some kind. Don't worry about it. Regarding the XL's, I don't have them because I guess I've got wee ears but SGD's right. Opinions from those who have used them vary so much I can only conclude that whatever the difference is it certainly isn't a major one

I got the matt black version too as black is cooler. Always. You're going to have fun.

I think it's wider & longer and it's definitely deeper as I'm sure that was the most reported problem. Some people's ears were basically resting on the driver. Kudos to the company for looking after customers and responding to feedback. You don't see that a lot these days

OK, dimensions of the XL and Reg pads...  Using A, B, a, b, d where A and B are the two outer diameters, a and b are the inner diameters, and d is the depth.
 
XL Pad:

1. A: 75
2. B: 90-91
3. a: 39
4. b: 54
5. d: 24

 
Regular:

1. A: 74
2. B: 95
3. a: 34
4. b: 57
5. d: 18

 
Note, my regular pads have gone though some immense use XD  The depth may be lower than a new pad is.  Also, to answer your other question, There is more cushion (because it is deeper), but it's not denser.

Don't know about these, but I have the VMODA Vamp Verza and it plays well with the M-100.

I'm interested in the vamp verza but is it really worth it to spend 600 dollars on them?

The Vamp Verza sounds incredible with the M-100. SGD, if you had made the drive to AC Gears you could have demoed it. I think the best way to describe what it does is it makes the M-100 sound much "bigger." Energy, slam, clarity. It actually hurts to think about it because I can't get them to sound like that with the equipment I do have.
 
Whether or not it's worth $600 is another thing. I think it is, and if I had the money to blow (and a compatible phone) I would have done it upon first listen months ago. However, does it sound like $600 on top of your $300 headphones? No. You're paying for form factor, compatibility, R&D (it is a very niche product) and a bit of exclusivity. There are cheaper options that are just as capable. They just lack that V-MODA sexiness.

This isn't a reply to your post, but I'm sure you may or may not have noticed.
But the one thing the M100's do better on is poprock. Not sure if you listen to this genre, but electric guitars hitting higher notes and bass guitars are more fun than Q701's. (edit: in my opinion of course )

With Q701's, they sound flat. Not that it was bad but I never expected M100's to outbest my Q701's in genres more than rap/hiphop/heavy metal/edm/techno for enjoyment purposes

What kind of phone do you use? When I went the first time my phone (Galaxy Note SGH-i717) didn't work so I had to come back with my laptop as a source. I also only live 35 minutes via subway from there so it wasn't a big deal. Isn't 115 miles a bit much to just demo one amp? You're spending more on gas than on equipment. I guess you could hit up B&H Photo and J&R while you're in town.

What service you use? I've been bouncing around, currently on Google's All Access. 

Google as well. Have used Spotify for a bit in the past but ever since Google got their app on iOS I've converted completely. I just like googles interface better and that I can have my own music on their servers as well.
