I've been using wired Bose Soundtrue Ultra earbuds with an ifi hip dac amplifier for a few years now. They can get really loud and I like the sound quality. Now I'd like to switch to Bluetooth earbuds, but I'm afraid that might be a downgrade since they can't be used with an external dac. Are Bluetooth headphones louder than wired earbuds so no external dac is needed or should I stick with the wired ones?

I always use an equaliser that boosts the low frequencies and attenuates the high frequencies. That's why I need the hip dac. If I don't use the hip dac, the volume is too low.

Those of you who have used wired earbuds with an external dac and switched to Bluetooth earbuds: Are there any compromises when it comes to volume?

I've had the Momentum 3 ear buds and they got plenty loud, the active noise cancelling can be turned off for battery life savings at higher volume. They all have preset profiles to get close to a V shape.
There's wireless kits, but they usually lack power. I simply use a Moondrop Chu 2 with an Apple adapter which has enough power to equalize with a preamp reduction and still blow your ears off for under $30.
