URBANFUN YBF-ISS014 Impressions thread

I received these today, but I haven’t had a chance to listen to them.

Boy, the rumors were definitely true about the mmcx plug on these. It’s janky AF. It looks beyond homemade.

One of my female mmcx sockets is mounted crooked, and is so crooked that it’s literally touching the side of the shell. The other mmcx socket is at least mounted straight, but it’s recessed in the shell really deep.

Both of the female mmcx sockets had the center post bent, and I had to straighten them with tweezers before I could even plug a cable in.

It’s sad, because the shell is made nice, and there’s good accessories. The build quality on the shell is 8/10, and the mmcx jack is like 1/10.

Hopefully the sound will more than make up for the Mickey Mouse mmcx sockets. I will take a listen in a little bit.

Yeah, I don't know how the hell they thought that was ok.... Looks like it's missing a piece or something to be honest, the exposed, poorly molded metal around it is bewildering given the rest of the Shell.

You don't notice it when a cable is attached, but I never want to change my cable out of fear. Next person to get a pair should post a picture of the connectors up close of the mmcx connectors so people can see exactly how unfinished they look

This might be the pair that makes me a 2 pin guy.

I might have gone mmcx 55/45 before but holy hell did they do the mmcx connectors wrong on this. Put the cable you want on these and then don't ever touch it again and it should be fine.... Cable roll at your own peril....

I mean, when you think about it, it takes quite a bit of effort to skew the center posts of the female MMCX connectors which merits an extra premium in price.

Here’s an EQ profile to try out for the Urbanfun:

I wasn't able to take photos of mine, but if you zoom in to their own marketing photos you can get a pretty good idea of how janky and unfinished the top is:

To be honest, I was scared to push too hard on these connectors so using a TRN T2 cable, they will click in but not very secure. I haven't had the cable fall off while listening, but wrapping the cable to put them away, it usually falls off. After your experience, I am sticking with a light push on these. My **** **** have more connection issues than these.

i wrote to the store to fix those connectors, they are making the second batch, they will fix them according to the reply

I wonder if they will offer a discount to the 30 or so people who bought the first batch. I'll shoot them an email

When Smabat had connector issues with the first batch of ST-10, they provided replacements. You only had to provide photos of the mmcx jacjk and the plug on the cable. A macro shot revealed the difference between the original and the new connectors. Smabat acknowledged the problem and said they were unhappy with the original parts that had been used.

They did not ask for the defective ones to be returned..only proof that you had the first batch...which the photo provided. Someone posted photos showing the difference.

I sure hope that Urbanfun does the same thing.

My one side was so crooked, the cable wouldn’t even plug in all the way or stay connected.

I sanded the ends of mine down and tried to clean them up as best as I could. I was able to grind away enough material that I can finally get a mmcx cable to plug in. It’s still janky as heck, but at least I could listen to them.

I have never owned a pair of earphones in my life where the sockets were so crooked that I had to grind them down just to get the cable to plug in.
