Hey Bros,

I really REALLY like my HFI 780s that I have had for a few months. I found a used pair of Pro 900s that I could get for around $300. Is it worth the upgrade? In what ways sonically? Also, are the Pro 900 more comfy?

Thanks!

The 780 is much more balanced than the 900. If you want bigger, more bass that you can ever turn off, and sharper, hotter highs, go for it. They are more refined in every way.

What are your musical preferences?

Are the Pro900s still as portable as the HFI 780s (that was initially their purpose but now I listen to them more than my Denon AH D5000s). I listen to everything excluding country spending the most time on electronica/dubstep, classic rock, punk rock and classical symphony and piano. I am also a soundstage junky which I hear the 900s deliver better than the 780s. I've got about 17 hours to make this decision--oh Ebay!

The Pro 900's are definitely not portable quite like 780. They are larger, and don't fold up as easy. They come in a massive case. I suppose you could get your own stuff sack. The Pro 900 leak sound in AND out much more than 780.

It sounds like you want a good all-rounder. I think Pro 900 is good for electronic, less so for rock and classical. I think the Denon D5000 woud be better.

Thanks for the input. I do like my D5000s and the HFI 780s are great for portable use. I am still not completely over the Pro 900s yet. Some people say that the sound leakage/isolation isn't bad (can be used in a library if need be). I am under the impression that the Pro 900 will improve upon the HFI 780s sonically which is what I am looking for.
