I dont really think its an upgrade to the actual headphone, I think the extra cost is just for the noise cancellation, which would be a real rip off because it is doubling the price for the same sound. I also think that upgrading from Triports would lead to paying less for the upgrade than you did for the triport.
I call that 'reverse upgraditis'. I had a whole Bose system(AM10 dual cubes +AM15 powered bass module) and assembled a KLH system(9250B towers + 9900 Center/surrounds) that was significantly cheaper and killed the Bose system with its surrounds tied behind its back-obviously. And we're talking about a price difference of $550 (used Bose, new would have been around $1000) vs. $150 (new KLH).
You could also give SR60's a good suggestion as an upgrade to the TriPorts, and they cost less than half, and the same can easily be said about the ER6i and the QuietComfort 2.
