hey guys

ive had my triports for about 9 months now and although they have served me well i am in need of a new pair of headphones.

i mainly listen to dance and trance music as well as other stuff occasionally. i was wondering what the best headphones are to get for this use they need to be high quality(obviously) lol . and light and comfy as will be wearing them for 6+ hours at a time. With the ability to produce some decent bass.

any help would be awesome

cheers c4rter

oh yeah please dont abuse the bose triports as i have realised the errors of my way but they have started me off on my journey for audiophile heaven!

Also, how will you be using these? At home, commuting, in the library, while on a brisk walk? Do you need isolation?

well i will mainly be using them attached to my comp and hi fi.

so not used for commuting. but the thing i liked about the tri ports was that they were very comfy and light.

And as for the budget i have about £70-£100 not sure what that is in dollars.

hope this helps

1 euro is worth about 1 1/4 US dollars. 1 US dollar is worth about 1 1/4 Canadian dollars. Its pretty easy to estimate the conversion if you just rember that each consecutive country's dollar is worth about 1/4 less than the last.

Pretty much any headphone in your price range that is recomended and seconded by another here will sound quite a better than your triports

. Do you need/want closed headphones? If you go with open, sound will leak in and out, but sound quality will generally be improved. If go with closed its the exact opposite with open, nothing (or very little) will leak in and out, but the SQ will generally be less than the equivilant open can. How important is size and weight if your just going to be using them around the house? For instance i use my 280's for 4-6 hours with no problems, and they are claimed to be on the heavy and uncomfortable side.

Cyclone, those were pounds sterling, not euros

. He basically said he's got from US$150 to US$200 to spend on cans

I'd say that, if he needs to buy new, some HD595s would be nice... they don't isolate, but the Triports don't do all that well either

. Some DT440s would hit the spot too...

I say some Beyerdynamic DT770/80's would work out well. They are comfy, and are known for having a hardcore lowend

Well, the Etymotic ER4 series is outside of your budget, but if you would be willing to spend a little more I think it would be worth it. They are not as comfortable as the Triports, but they sound great, are small and isolate very well.

On the other end of the spectrum you could get the Sony MDR7506/V6 for around one hundred dollars, and significantly less than that if you bought them used. They are very comfortable, pretty portable, and sound good for their price range.

The bass is much more solid on the Sonys than the Etymotics.

if you want bass you'd probably want to go for sennheisers or beyers in that price range. or if you really need bass, just screw the 'phones and get a big @$$ woofer.

I recommend either the Sony SA1000/3000 headphones and the Senneheiser HD555/595 cans.

I'd have to disagree about comfort about the Etys from personal experience, but I will agree on the whole Ety thing as a great choice. The ER6i can be had for around $100 and they are freaking amazing. They don't have bass you feel, but they have plenty of bass you hear and some impact you can't- with smooth mids and clear, extended highs, and articulated accuracy beyond that. I'd say they are the next best thing to the ER4P. I can wear mine for up to ten hours or so with triflange tips on, but I'm a special case here. My ears are unusually shaped for this purpose, and wearing Grado Bowls without much of any discomfort. Speaking of which, there's always the Alessandro MS1 if you want a nice open headphone.

yeah thats the probelm i have, i own a decent hi fi and it just pisses the neighbours off! although my female house mate above me apprectiates the sub, if you get what i mean

i think the beach boys song "good vibrations" sums it up.

although she claims that she cant do her work when it is on. too loud of some thing. i think we all know the real reason!

as for the cans if open is what i need to get the best sounds then i think i will go for them.
as for the sen 595s i tried them and they seem huge they just feel like they are swallowing my whole head. although they did sound good.

i know you all have differnt opinions( such is life) but is there any one can that really stand out from the rest for the dance/trance music.

cheers

anyways, i know that sennheiser has a decent line aimed at DJs, so i'm sure they'd do fine. i think i read somewhere else on this forum that someone was very satisfied with bass response from the new hd215. i kinda like the beyer dt880s, but thats just my personal preference. i feel that the bass is there but not overpowering.
