you must do 44.1kHz DTS in order to know if it is bit-perfect

afaik there is no 44.1kHz AC3..... AC3/DTS are usually 48kHz and even my crap onboard S/PDIF can passthrough those

Link me to a 44.1 DTS file, and I'll do the test when I get back home tonight.

And you are right, most DVDs have AC3/DTS in 48kHz.

Now ShadowVlican says now maybe it isnt.

nonono, i was saying his way to test for bitperfect may have been incorrect, rendering his final conclusion flawed

reread my posts and you'll understand

that said, here are links to some 44.1kHz AC3/DTS WAVE
http://www.kellyindustries.com/sounds.html

humanflyz, I don't have a DTS receiver, so I have to count on you to do the test. Please! I mostly believe in our head-fier's test as the definite and conclusive answer.

I know I'm paranoid. (but which HIFIer is not?) I know it' no big deal, bit perfect or not. My ears are very happy with the product, but somewhere deep in my brain there is an area I simply cannot control.

I reposted the question of being bit perfect on the Trends forum and emailed them as well. I will let you guys know when I get back from the hospital. I was supposed to go the other day, but the nurse said my best bet would be to check in on a Sunday night as they wouldn't do much of anything over the weekend except cost me a ton of money I don't have. If they get back to me before I leave you guys will be first to know. (Back to showing my wife how to put movies on my iPod.)

Hey guys, got this back by email from the people at Trends

Hi Robert,

In regards to the unit being bit perfect, my sales rep at Trends said exactly this when I posed the question:

“Yes! We support native CD-player standard. I know that some users are using some software upgrade to DTS signal but, the IC of Trends UD-10 supports two channels. Anyways, we are collecting more information for our engineer's testing.”

From this I gather they are saying it is bit perfect? I thought it either was or wasnt, which makes me wonder what else they would need to test.

so that means its not bit perfect and it will up/downsample to that level? I mean, for what it cost I'm not complaining. It sounds much better than my Extigy, just curious what that means.

Any progress as regards the verification of the bit-perfectness of UD-10.

Using ASIO4ALL, I think I bypassed the windows internal mixer, since I can no longer adjust the volume of its digital out with any of volume control sliders windows provided. Does this make it bit perfect?

But, very curiously, with ASIO4ALL and foobar, I can still control the volume of the analogue output of UD-10 using windows volume control. How can this happen? I'm very confused.
