What I can absolutely confirm, is that UD-10 is MUCH superior to M-AUDIO TRANSIT. The difference is not subtle.

I strongly recommend it to those looking for an upgrade for their mediocre USB digital output (such as TRANSIT), but are not willing to shell out nearly a grand for something like an Empirical Audio luxuries. (Anyone willing to do a comparison? Please!)

The only way to make absolutely sure you have bit-perfect is outputing a DTS signal to an external receiver; if you hear sound then you have bit-perfect; if you only hear noise you don't. I never tried (no receiver DTS here) butI've heard people talk about this often so I suppose it's true. However, I think using Asio4all with the UD-10 you probably have bit-perfect.

I'm glad it sounds better than the Transit, but will it sound better than an audiophile? (I suppose it's better than a transit).

I think it's about time someone makes a group test of digital PC interfaces available... perhaps in a regional Head-Fi meeting?

i was told the UD-10 cannot passthrough AC3/DTS, so that test DOES NOT WORK

only way to tell is if your DAC has some LED/LCD display to show what the sampling rate is (something like the musiland md-10)

Let us hope not...Keep us informed.

All the best.

Just a brief explanation. I broke my neck and lower back 4 years ago and have a spine disease. Its to the point now where meds dont help, so they need to do something. I am going to refuse to leave untill they do.. Of course I am bringing my SR-60's, my iPod and my total bit head with me for the stay, but thanks for the thoughts, and like you I am just hoping for the best. Bad timing as my wife just got sick as well and usually she takes care of me, so I need to go. i cant stay here and take care of myself. In anycase, I'll check in with you guys when I can. Maybe they will have wireless there

Hoping things work out better for you. I never like to see anyone have to blow out their toys in times of need.

Unfortunatly it may be more than just my toys. Will find out tomorrow. All I know is I am refusung to leave the hospital till they do something. The plate in my neck has shifted or something and nothing is relieving the pain. Believe it or not my music helps me most.

Nandro, as a back pain sufferer my thoughts go with you. I know how absulutely painfull it can be.I am off work today because even the everyday tasks I could do 5 years ago is getting to be a challange because of pain.
Also I went ahead and bought the UD-10 with the battery backup/power plug. Its going to replace the PClink from DIYKITS(Eddie WU).
I also jumped in and bought a new Berydynamic DT-990 2005 Edition. So my setup is going to be-
Music server>UD-10>Paradesea Dac>Darkvoice 336>Dt-990 2005 Ed..
Oh ya if the dt-990 works out I may sell the Senn. HD-595 that are about 4 months old if anyones interested.Pm me if you are. 10/10 condition.
I see on Boyo web site they have Oxygen free single chrystal copper interconnects. Anyone try these yet?
Well thats it.

I'm burning to know if UD-10 is bit perfect or not. Can anyone give a definite verification? Or I just can't sleep. Or even go crazy.
I hate that "bit perfect" matter. The one who created it should face capital punishment.

I asked the question on the companys forum a few days ago and havent got a response yet, I will post it if I ever get one.

I know exactly what you mean, it's frustrating not knowing what the software is doing to our precious data/music.

the only method I heard about was the the DTS output to a receiver but it's just what I heard. ShadowVlican says it failed that test so, either the test is valid and then it is not bit-perfect, or, the test is not valid and so doesn't tell us anything about it. I don't know to be honest.

The definitive test would be to have a digital input in your PC and feed it the data from the UD-10, record it *properly* to .wav and compare that file bit-by-bit with the original .wav file. If someone can do it, here's how to:
make a .bat file (normal ASCII text file with .bat extension instead of .txt) with this code:

Quote:

fc /a cd1\*.* cd2\*.* > outcome.txt
notepad.exe outcome.txt

place it in a folder with 2 folder in it: 'cd1' and 'cd2'. The folders cd1 and cd2 must contain the 2 .wav files (original and recorded) with the same name. It will let you know if it is different.

cheers

correction: a canadian sales representative of the UD-10 told me it wasn't able to passthrough AC3/DTS

but i haven't given up hope!!

It is bit perfect, I did the whole AC3/DTS passthrough test, and plus the Lavry tells you what bit-rate the transport is putting out. If you are not getting bit-perfect output, it's because you are not configuring your software correctly.
