  RM799 for early bird, and RM899 for the rest seems like a good deal here, should I go for it? I cant fill up that 32GB anyways cause I have only a few highly favorable music only, the rest in PC meditating

 
I have nothing bad to say about HM700 as a simple, play music only DAP. But don't expect any EQ and fancy functions until someone figure out how to Rcokbox it (yes, it can be rockboxed).

It has been fairly well received in China since it was released a couple of weeks ago, so you are definitely not the guinea pig. It is just that it hasn't reached oversea market yet so you don't see much mentioning here.

I am pretty sure it is a no for now, and I have not heard any plan to sell the HM700 without IEM. I think one of the point about HM700 is that it is tuned with balanced RE400 in mind.

the local dealer did gave a discount if the IEM is not needed, so it's possible

But remember RE400B that comes with the HM700 is balanced cabled. You won't get the full effect from the HM700 with single-ended IEM.

  Just sat down and listened to my AD8620 mod'ed X3, Nano 7G and DX50, volume matched to within 0.5dB of each other (it is impossible to match any closer since all three has digital volume control). Here are some quick impression:
 
Soundstage (wide -> close): DX50 > X3 > Nano 7G
Texture (thick -> thin): X3 > Nano 7G > DX50
Control / tightness: X3 > DX50 > Nano 7G
 
One thing that struck me early on is that DX50 sounds more gainy and bright than most DAP I have. The three way comparison really explains why - it is because DX50 is really thin on the mid and upper bass, which in effect emphasizes more on the treble in the overall presentation and makes it more edgy than it should. On the other hand, the slight hollowness also gives DX50 an excellent soundstage. IIRC, these are kind of opposite to what I have heard on the stock X3. I think I still prefer my mod'ed X3 the most. Though it is easy to tell that Nano 7G isn't quite as good as DX50, I think it actually has better balance as well. If only DX50 has a thicker mid, it would have been really great. Just wonder what opamp DX50 has on the headphone-out and maybe they are worth modding as well.

 
I think both X3 and DX50 outshine HM602. The new HM700 will be a fairer comparison. If we were to only talk about HM700 with its balanced RE400 vs. X3 or DX50 with RE400, I'll say HM700 > X3 > DX50. But with other headphone, I think they are roughly equal, with X3 being my favorite because it drivers most headphone very well. DX50 on the other hand only sound great with thicker sounding headphone (to counter its own thinness). HM700 isn't bad, but non-balanced headphone don't really benefit from HM700 greatest advantage of having a balanced headphone-out.

U said HM-700 was tuned for re400, so can the re400b with HM-700 be better than Re600b + HM 700 ?
