Two New Compact MTouch Portable Players – Shanling M0 Pro and M1s

Delayed until end of February/early March, due to delays on delivery of certain parts.
Sounds like a wait until Black Friday purchase to me now. Looking at what April for wide release and then time for reviews and user feedback and of course the inevitable firmware updates to come. I will follow the release and reviews until then and see what the feedback is and then make a decision. Not a must have purchase at this point for me.

M0 Pro USB-out to Hifiman HM-800, most definitely the smallest portable R-2R setup with balanced output that anyone ever tried.

I am with my M0 Pro for 4 weeks now. What a fantastic little device with just a couple of quirks that M1S should resolve. Bigger screen would help with navigation for sure as it is hard on such a small device. Dedicated 4,4mm port would be amazing as now you need to wiggle with adapters. WiFi, Airplay or DLNA for data transfer or streaming would make it an all-in-one. Tidal is also a nice addition if implemented properly.
I just really hope the delay in release is due to the fact that the @Shanling team got back to design board and decided to move the buttons below the screen and not above it. Now it looks like simply ridiculous solution to be honest as to reach to them you would need to cover your screen. I have never seen anything like that in customer electronics and I believe it may be a deal breaker for some people 🙈

It probably won't matter as you can choose which way up it's held. Below is the reply from the Shanling rep on page 1 of the M1S thread: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/shanling-m1s-ideal-compact-portable-player.965347/#post-17207494
We want to make the screen able to flip, so you could change if the volume will be on left or right.

MicroSD card slot and USB-C connectors are on the opposite side.

Really like the m0 pro, would be even better if it didn't have a 20k file limit. No point in putting a 1tb card in such a device with such a restriction in place.

Hopefully the m1s isn't handicapped by such. Any updates?

Which player has support for RG info and CUE sheet formats? :raised_hand:

I can't wait for M1s to reveal the details.
I have M2s but it stopped working a year ago. So, M0PRO and M1s caught my attention.

Replay Gain and Cue are supported by all our MTocuh players.

The delay was due to the availability of some parts. The design stays the same.

Can only recommend to stick to folder browsing if you have more than 20k files.

Not yet sure if the M1s will have the same limit or if it would be possible to improve it with the new platform.

Sure:

M0 Pro 5-pin Pinout
Left +
Right +
Left -
Right -
Not connected

Thank you! Seems like the pin out is really exclusive for the M0. Was thinking of using the adapter for another player, but looking at the pin polarity, can't use it elsewhere.

Thank you again for this information!

Last time 3.5mm balanced was tried, it was the 3.5Pro. But it didn't really catch up.

What we are now adapting is a new type of connector, with its main advantage being support for both single-ended and balanced. This will prove beneficial for these small devices, that would otherwise be struggling to fit secondary headphone output.

At this time only Tidal app.

These are hardware buttons above the screen.

M1s provides more power.

At this time only Tidal is supported.

They will be released in December.
Is there a sheet comparing the two players?

Does the above mean that as long as I have fewer than 20k in a folder, I should be ok?

I organize everything by folders and sub folders, and overall have more than 20,000 on a 1TB card.
